New firmware, who has it?

Greyboy

Ok, Ive been reading mixed things on this board about the new firmware.

From what I hear it locks out the ability to transfer .mp3s via TF card to your phone...BUT there are other ways to get around it. How? sending a message to yourself and getting charged $.50? or do you have to get a hacked version?

In addition I also hear the new firmware is awesome and really makes a difference with a few things such as the camera and stuff. This true? Also, do all of the stores have this now or is it still only available in selected locations

any input is appreciated

Thanks

Grey

I thought all the stores had it, but were told not to flash anymore phones. Sounds like the incredibly long beta they had on this firmware still didn't work out all the bugs. Based on the reports of this flash killing phones, I bet that Verizon just didn't want to buy any more users dead cells....

I've only flashed one phone -- and it doesn't take too long except for installing the software -- but it is a time consuming process to re-establish all of your custom settings once the flash is done.

I'll bet they're getting lots of complaints from people having to go back in and set up their phones a second time. If they're smart -- they are coming up with a way to save the custom settings to return the phone to condition that it was in before they did the flash. That's my opinion -- and does not in any way reflect what they might in fact be doing.

Just last night I compared the camera in my friend's phone which is ORIGINAL and unflashed to mine with the 140.OR flash installed. I noticed absolutely no difference in the camera perform...

The phone doesn't even ring when using a blue tooth headset?

so,

1) they cripple blue tooth.
2) only working function with blue tooth is the use of a headset which doesn't even ring?????????

but wait, this was supposedly corrected in their firmware update which ironically did more harm than good.

Thats like buying a car fully loaded and only to realize after driving off the lot that the power windows will only go down and not up.

Wow, Verizon's really doing more than just taking away features of a phone which you paid full price for and only to get less than half of the working functions. They are stripping everyone of their sanity

OMG 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 Now, this is getting funny by the moment.

Hi Guitar_guy! Actually, it's not impossible. My V710 rings when the headset is on. I know you like to get your facts straight! 😉

Actually, mine came with the new software. In all honesty, the camera is level, the pics I've taken (only a few, admittedly) are good to very good, and the BT headset works like it should. I don't have use for the transflash or other BT syncing, so I'm happy.

I looked at the VX-8000 I know you love, but really--tell the truth--doesn't the "feel" and construction seem a bit cheap? Maybe that's a plus these days and maybe I'm getting old, but it just didn't feel solid to me. Otherwise, it seemed like a good phone.

All in all, I'm completely satisfied with my 710. As I think you've said, "to each his own"! 🙂

so you CAN notice a difference in your pictures? It is brighter, clearer? how are night pictures, for the most part, the v710 only has problems with low lighting or night pictures.

Thanks

Newest is 8700_01.40.0R.

I am perfectly satisfied with it, but I suspect others may argue whether it's the "greatest".

Your satisfied with the 1.40? If I get my phone flashed what differences will there be? IS it worth getting the update? Thanks again

It supposedly fixes a whole host of bugs I never knew existed but, for me, the things I notice are:

allows phone to ring when bluetooth headset is connected;
allows dismissal of dialog screen via headset;
faster power-on and power-off;
additional wallpapers;
removed a title bar in mobile web to give more usable space;
mobile web is faster loading.

I have no issue with the update since I don't use a transflash nor bother with ringtone downloads. If you do, you should research this further before updating.

I like the idea of faster power on and off and faster mobile web but probabely won't be using the transflash slot. Why would the update cause a problem with the transflash feature? That's weird

I suggest you read thru this forum as there's a lot of info on issues you apparently are just starting to hear about.

The update supposedly eliminates the ability to transfer certain files via the transflash. As I don't use a TF, I can't speak to the accuracy of the info.

The pictures are brighter and they seem to have more color. the night pictures depend on how far away you are from the subject ,and what resolution your on.The night pictures (inside) lines go away depending on what angle your at and were some of the lighting is.However the pictures do appear to be black and white .

So the new firmware update definitely disables the card feature from being able to transfer mp3s?

The new upgrade disables the flashcard as you know it . You do not have the ability to copy and move files,without the tricks you read about.
