V710 Camera - Not Just an Alignment Issue

I've read the dozens of threads here about the V710 camera and everything said to date is correct and continues to be a frustration. I have been through 3 V710's now for a variety of reasons, primarily the camera alignment. However, during my last time-wasting visit to the Verizon store I had plenty of time to play with the Audiovox 9900, particularly its camera. The 9900 camera is significantly better than the V710 in all ways - brighter, sharper, clearer, purer color and faster. In addition, the 9900's internal screen is even brighter and sharper. I took 2 nearly identical pics using the 9900 and V710 at the store and emailed both to myself. No question, the 9900 pic was far superior.

So, for me the issue is no longer just about the 710...

I found that the v710s picture quality (indoors) is best when set to night mode. I spent the last half hour trying to get a v710 pic to look like a v265 pic at the same resolution. What I found is that, in addition to what I just said, you must have brightness all the way up, and contrast almost all the way down. These settings produced similar pictures, though the v710 still lacked the color intensity of the other moto. These settings will also cancel most of the "noice" that the v710 produces. Also, taking pictures at lower resolutions increases quality as well.

Overall, in any conditions, the cdm9900's camera is much better than the v710s. It seems they put the same crappy camera in the MPX220, moto's flagship GSM smartphone. What a pi...

I agree with your assessment of the V710 camera - not very good. However, the decision to be made (in my opinion), is not the quality of the "camera", but the quality of the phone. I have a V710, and because of all the criticism I read here, I ordered an Audiovox CDM9900 from Verizon. The reception was so poor, I returned it, thinking the phone was defective. The replacement was the same.

Sooo, if you need a reliable phone with reliable reception, choose the V710. If you neeed a camera, choose neither!

crday - I think this forum is just fantastic. There are differing opinions on every device, features that people favor over another and make purchase decisions on ...

I upgraded my phone to the CDM9900 2 weeks ago. I happen to like the phone very much. The reception in my area is significantly better than the T720 I had previously. The LCD resolution and brightness is the best I've seen so far. All in all, the phone is pretty solid. So what is my problem?

I want the v710! ;-) I really want a bluetooth phone that will allow me to use a wireless headset. Yes, I would like the phone even more if it was a fully enabled bluetooth device but the headset is more important to 'me'. Camera? I still don't understand why everyone gets so exci...

You're right about the camera, it's a nice to have feature but not a necessity. The thing that bugs me is that this one is inferior to other cheaper phones cameras. I would have been happy with Moto replacing the 1.2mp camera with a VGA & dropping the price by $50. Like I said before, my son's V400 camera is much better than this one. To me, megapixel vs. VGA should be a no-brainer as far as picture quality is concerned.
