It has just come out. I have one on its way in the mail. But expect it to be just an operationally improved 810: longer battery life, better noise cancellation. I absolutely swear by the 810 because of the boom on/off switch. Close it and you lose no battery life; open it and it immediately pairs, including answering the phone without unacceptable delay. It's also quite wearable. Unless you want a teeny caller ID display on your headset (buy the Sony HB660 Akono), this is the best choice. And it uses the exact same charger as your 710.

I've been watching for the 850. Where did you get (order) it? Price? Others I have spoken to seem to like the 820 over the 810 but this new noise canceling feature has me intrigued enough to try a BT headset. I don't care about the LCD but both inbound and outbound (as sounds to other party) sound quality is important to me. If I understand correctly, the 810 and hopefully the 850 with boom feature allow the phone (V710 especially) to ring normally and then you can flip the boom to pair and answer unhurried. Is this correct?

I've also read good feedback about the HBH-300 (Sony). I have seen no comments about phone ring issues and voice dial feature as I do not know anyone that has the 300 with 710. But I have read posts from people...

It's all a matter of preference. The 810 (and I presume the 850) work perfectly given their design. If you don't like to turn it on and off, you might prefer any one of many like the 300 from Sony. For me, it's a great feature to be able to leave it in my pocket and flip it open to answer a call. I never worry about standby time. I will know soon (next day or two) if the noise canceller on the 850 is a marked improvement, but frankly the 810 sounds good to those on the other side according to many who I have asked. The 850 is currently available from mobilecityonline.com. Others will surely get it very soon. The price is steep $129, but if you like the black and have some faith in the noise canceller improvement, what the heck...

Looking forward to your comments after you play with your new 850! I WANT the turn off and quick pair-up because with the V710, you need that to hear the phone ring. I will never use a headset enough to justify keeping it on to hear a ring beep. For me, a purchase would be somewhat of a toy and to experiment with BT. I certainly have no need for it but the new noise cancel tech has me curious. I'm hoping the price comes down because $129 is too steep for my budget given "toy" status for me. The Sony 300 is getting very good feedback but I have yet to read from a V710 user. That one can be got for $88 but I do not know how fast it pairs for the turn off to hear the phone ring. Maybe with the holidays around the corner - they may go on...

I now have my 850. I can report that the sound is marginally clearer than on my 810, but probably not worth spending bucks on if you already have the 810. The improved talk time is the main reason to buy. Pick up time on an incoming call (from opening the boom to connection) is the same as it takes to put it on your ear; in other words, as fast as it needs to be (around 3 seconds or so.)

Where can you find specs re: the 850 vs. the 820 and 810? I was just about to get the 820, but if the 850 is better, then I'll get it. Motorola's site doesn't seem to acknowledge the 850. Is it available in the USA? Thanks for the help!

from what i can see the 850 is just a sooped up 810 -- now 1.2 compliant although your b710 is only 1.1 so that doesn't matter. better noise cancellation. longer talk time. also beeter encrypted so you are secure on those calls to the fbi. it is available here

as stated before i had the 820 before i bought the 810. the sound quality is equall ( i have yet to have anyone tell me that they can tell i am on a headphone. the big deal to me was the fact that when you fold up the 810 it turns off and disconnects fro mthe 710 letting it ring normally as well as the fact it comes with a belt case. when you unfold it it turns on and automatically connects to the phone and w...

I was told that the 810 did NOT have voice dialing and the 820 DID have voice dialing. Is that correct? Motorola told me that when I called to ask about the difference between the two.

However, it sounds like you are recommending the 810 OVER the 820. Is that right?

Thanks!

When I went to the Digital Expo that Ziff Davis held last month at the Jacob Javitz in NYC, they had the HS-850 on display at the Motorola booth. I talked to the rep about it and he said the battery time is significantly improved and almost double that of the HS-810. Looking at the 850, it is identicle in every aspect expternally except that it is glossy Black in color (not silver). Internally, I suspect it will be bluetooth 1.2 (the 810 is 1.1). I didnt have my 820 on me but I suspect the sound quality on the earpiece should match or be better than the 820. (Currently in my own comparison test the 820 has better quality sound on the earpiece). The Boom Mic on the 850 should be at least as good as or better than the 810 (which is already bet...

I have not had a great deal of experience with the HS850. I have however had pretty good luck with my HS820. I have tried the HS810 and its newer model the HS850 but I like the HS820 better because you don't have to flip a boom to turn it on. All you have to do is press the button to turn it on so you can keep it on your ear for convenience. Everyone has their personal preference.

If you are looking for something to bridge the gap between the phone or headset and a full carkit, something like the HF800 would work. I hear that Motorola also has a new pro-install carkit coming out, the HF850. They have a picture of it on their UK site. http://direct.motorola.com/eng/accessories.as p?Country=GBR&language=ENG&productid=29249

I had the 820 to start but traded for the 810 for the exact reason you said you didn't like it -- with the 820 you had to turn it on and either leave it on or drop it from the phone so you could hear incoming calls. with the 810 you just unfold it - it turns on and connects with the phone and answers the call much more convienient if you ask me then you fold it up and it turns off - I saw no difference in quality between the 2 I also own a jabra bt200 and it is in the same vein as the 820 for function and maybe about the same as far as quality. I like the look of the 850 just for the black on black (big raiders fan here). Also the 810 and 850 come with cases and lanyards (silly lanyards) all and all i think the style and funtion make the 81...
