This depends on what type of service you are looking for. 3rd party developers offer Java apps. that you will have to pay extra for, but there are no additional service charges through Nextel that you should have to endure.

Just dig into your manual hard enough and you should uncover how to use the GPS features. I tether my Nextel i88s to my laptop and I can see where I'm traveling via StreetAtlas 9.0.

Very Cool... I never get lost, and the GPS works whether the phone is in coverage or not! 😁

Has anyone been able to just select menu, select GPS, select position, select refresh, and have the phone actually locate a satellite?

Every time I do this it takes 5 minutes and then says cannot locate any satellites. Not sure why it isnt working? Has anyone got this to work the way I described above. I was outside in the open every time I tried it as well. Thanks!

What did you do to make it work, I have the same problum?

i actually went into my car, started driving down the highway, help the phone in one hand, went to menu, gps, position and pressed refresh, and then held the phone near the windshield so it got a clear view of the sky while driving, after a couple of mins or so, the phone beeped, i looked at it and it showed me my location based on longitude and latitude,

also if you pay for the telenav service its actually pretty nice, but you can still use the basic funtions for free, see how fast you are driving and what directions your going in,,

hope this works for you,, thanks!!
