SIM Slot ????

Mar 31, 2004, 9:43 PM
Can anyone give a definate explanation why this phone has a SIM slot?

My first guess would be that its only because it uses the case of another GSM phone but it even has the contacts and all. This doesn't make sense.

After that I could make an assumption that its either for future use or simply for further memory expansion. Memory expansion would be nice but I have a feeling this is not the case as it is not documented and that would probably be a feature they would want to document.

I've noticed it on my phone for a while and never cared much.. now I am curious and determined to find out what Nokia's reasoning was in putting a SIM slot on a CDMA phone! ;) hehe

Ok, after looking all day I finally believe I figure out what this is. Not a SIM slot but a RUIM (Removable-User Identity Module) slot. Although, from what I can tell, they are pretty much the same thing. I'm trying to find differences now.

Does anyone know if it is possibly to put a RUIM card in the slot for additional memory or better yet take a readily available SIM card and use that in the slot for additional memory?

(If I find answers to these questions before anyone posts a reply I'll reply to myself again ;) )

nokia manufactures all there phones the same(they feel they have to be different and not design the phones to fit the companies) in the begining and then they get programmed for the companies after the phones are made so all nokias have slots for SIM and RUIM cards placing one of these card into the phone could potentially fry the phone and could possible void any warranty on phone
