Mysterious Application Backup

I did a total wipe of the phone and after it restored all of my applicaions...plus many I had previously uninstalled mysteriously installed themself.

any idea why?

your installed applications are remembered via your google account. this way if you switch phones, or lose them for whever reason, you can get them restored. I've never tried wiping my phone before, but this is most likely what cause it.

Not 100% on this and maybe someone could point me in the right direction, but I think the application backup is for the phone you have now. I had to do a hard reset and all my applications came back. However when I swapped the phone a few weeks later, I had to go look for them all again on the Market. The Verizon rep said something about some number (E__) that I can't remember and Google recognizing that. So with a hard reset you get them restored, but with a new phone they don't.

I might have missed something when I went and switched phones that might have saved me some time and if I did, I'd appreciate the help.
