Apps compared to iPhone

So this phone looks pretty exciting. And even more so from someone like me that's been dying for an iPhone on Verizon. So here's my question... why is it that the iPhone apps look so much more amazing than the apps from Android? The apps for iphone look like they have much better graphics and use 3D more. They also seem to use the accelerometer much more. Am I wrong and will Android catch up?

I think you and I should just wait for Verizon to get the iphone. It's what we really want after all. I am calling on all iphone fans who are Verizon customers to allow their contracts to expire and remain free agents. I know that we all want new devices, but we have our most strength now. If you allow them to lock you up for two more years they will take you for granted. Look I am sure the Droid is a nice enough phone, but rather than talk yourself into settling for something you really don't want (sort of like dating a person you are not attracted to simply because they make themselves available) let's wait. On the rare occasion that i speak with someone from Verizon and they mention that I am eligible for an upgrade, I tell them tha...

I tend to think that while many complain about the whole process with regard to getting apps in the App Center with Apple....I think the up-side to the process is better QA. Granted...I'm not saying that EVERY app is perfect.....but the down-side to an open structure like Android is the amount of complete trash that some "developers" create.

To be fair, I have no direct experience with Android....but I will have an open mind (as much as possible) when I do fnally have a look.

I think you are right. Somewhere around 9k apps I guess. I think RIM has 2 or 3k

SDK for iPhone OS is really polished and it has a lot of "pre built" items to make the app shine.

Android apps have the capability, but remember, they don't have the approval process Iphone apps have, so it's really hit or miss.

I assume anything google will make will be slick, as will any VZW apps. Beyond that the quality of the app will depend on the person who makes it. Remember, the DROID (and droid eris) are essentially the first android phones to be released on a major player. Even the Sprint Hero is a new player (and a much smaller carrier)

Market base (number of users) is the biggest way to improve app quality (because professional designers will have someone to purchase their products). So yes, apps will get more polish...

Consider this when comparing the numbers (I know it wasn't your original comment), how many of the apps for the iPhone are duplicates and how many are fart or belch sounds, broken screen emulators, shaken baby sims (ok, that one was removed).

The point is, when you say the iPhone has 100,000 apps available, how many are really USEFUL or productive apps?

I haven't yet seen the graphic quality of the apps, but consider the screens the current apps were designed for, the Droid is the first GREAT screen for Android devices, better graphics in apps are sure to follow.

Exactly. Quality over quantity. Regardless, Android still has a hell of a lot more apps that WebOS does and it will still come out far ahead even if the Pre should ever reach Verizon.
