Some iphone 3G advice

There seems to be more people on the fence about the new iphone than those on either extreme about getting it or not getting it. In summary, yes, 30 dollars for unlimited data and no messages seems unfair, considering the old iphone plan gives you that and 1500 messages a month for the same price. To add insult to injury, the discounted price comes with strings attached (must be a brand new customer, current customer on an existing iphone plan, or current customer eligible for an end-of-contract upgrade). Otherwise, prepare to shell out 400-500 bucks. And if that weren't enough, they're going to charge an additional 18 dollar "upgrade fee" when you buy the phone. Why? Because they can, because they know people want this phone that badly that...

I forgot to mention that the new iphone plans are eligible for employee discounts. I spoke to an AT&T rep today and he verified this information. This is significant, as the old iphone plans are exempt from employee discounts.

is it just the calling plan that's eligible for the employee discount or is it the data/text plans as well?

Thanks...thats a HUGE plus for me...since i get 20% off my bill each month now... 😳

As far as I know, it's just the calling plan. Data and text are still exempt. But I'll double check to make sure.

Just talked to a store rep, and he said that the FAN discount applies to the total bill before taxes (including data and text). For example, I plan on getting the 900 national minute plan (59.99) + 30 for unlimited data + 20 for unlimited text.

59.99 + 30 + 20 = 109.99 before taxes.

My FAN discount affords me 24% off, so...

109.99 x 0.24 = 26.4

109.99 - 26.4 = 83.59 per month before taxes (approx. 90-92 dollars after taxes).

I currently pay about 100-103 dollars a month after taxes with my current iphone plan which includes 1500 text messages a month. So i'll be saving about 10-13 dollars per month with the discount, and I'll be getting unlimited texts. Awesome 😁

FAN discount isn't assessed against the final bill before taxes, actually.

It discounts certain features and not others. For instance, most voice, data, and text plans do recieve the discount, but features such as insurance, Roadside Assistance, Early Nights & Weekends, etc. do not. The $9.99 charge for additional lines also is not discounted.

Good assessment WS. Question if you or anyone else knows...since we are on the topic of FAN... Do equipment discounts apply as well as service discounts? I get 45% off equipment and accessories.

thanks

No equipment discounts do not work for iPhone. The monthly discount will for the data package though!
