Dumb of At&t to get rid of 200 texts with the plan

For $20 it was a great deal with the old iphone. It was their Sidekick plan. Data and some text. Now you have to pay $30 a month which is the same price that Verizon charges for all their smartphones/blackberries and you don't get any text messages. I think they should have kept it at a great deal and not conform it to what you get with other companies. I understand 3g and the $10 extra charge for that but they should have included text messages with it, maybe even more than 200, and kept it a great deal for a cool phone.

Keep in mind that the extra $10 isn't necessarily just for 3g capabilities. You are getting the new iPhone at a cheaper price and you're also getting access to the mobile app store. I do agree though with the fact that they should've kept the 200 text messages with the plan because I'm a heavy text user and I'm actually coming over from a Sidekick 3 (unlimited text, web and email for only $15 due to the fact that I'm on a dealer line). I hope this new 3g iPhone is all it's cracked up to be (which it of course should be).

Can't agree more.........

I would like to know WHO out there that would buy the iPhone does not do texting? 200 texts a month is a joke.........not even close to what you would need (think they realize this?) and to charge you extra for them?

IMO this is a BIG strike against the iPhone but certainly not a deal killer........always looking for your $$$$ they are......LOL

This is the main reason that I am thinking of NOT upgrading to iPhone 3g! Now that I have found out that it will cost me a lot more per month for pretty much the same functionality, I am just going to keep my current iPhone plan. Plus, the new iPhone STILL doesn't do MMS and video recording. That was also a huge disappointment. Honestly, the Blackberry Bold is starting to look interesting. It does do MMS and Video recording. Apple better hope that one of their 3rd party applications will do MMS and Video recording. If they won't allow it, then they may see a lackluster sale of the new 3g iPhone. The new low price is nice, but not at the cost of more cost per month, I would rather pay the higher price up front and have a cheaper monthly pric...

Very true, the upfront cost of the phone is nice but with the added cost of the plan to use it, it does not take long for the $$$$$ to break even with the first iPhone.
Once again, they are sneaky as hell when it comes to stealing my money!

Having said that, i STILL will probably get one...............it is just too awesome not to 🙂

One thing to consider is that you get GPS for free with the iphone and vznavigator is $10 a month. One thing I'm interested to see is if you can use AIM like a text message, which would count as data not a text. I know it might not be as convent as actually texting. Also what good is a data plan when you can't even use the web browsers(voyager) not sure what the BB's and the side kick 3 look like.

Good point there.........I now am trying out the LG Dare until the iPhone comes out and the web browsing is actually usable where the others sucked BAD.
The iPhone still blows the Dare away with browsing though!

seems like the iphone with it's third party apps are going to allow you to do so much more then any other phone a lot of them are free. Not sure how about other at&t phones but verizons Default UI is pretty crappy, Iphone seems to let you change the phone to fit your needs so easy.

When you do the math....the phone may be cheaper to buy but after a 2 yr contract with the $30 data plan and $20 unlimited text your really not getting a bargin at all....ive had AT&T for 10 yrs now and really considering switching over to the verizon glyde or even voyager or LG dare....att really needs to step it up as far as putting new phones out...the touch screen one they have now has terrible reviews!!!

If you do switch, skip the Voyager and Glyde and get the Dare. 100 times better!

I agree with the cost factor. ATT and Apple have come up with a VERY interesting marketing scheme. LOL

Having said that............you get what you pay for and until another manufacturer comes up with a phone that can match the iPhone in ALL areas, you have no choice ☚ī¸

The iPhone is awesome and with the changes in the 3G, and the app store, it is a no brainer for me at least.

i completely agree with u...i reallly want the Iphone but I think its crazy for $50 for data and unlimited texts-maybe i should wait and see if it changes....also....i dont understand why the Iphone doesnt support MMS messgaes-u would think they would of added it to the 3g phone....again, i really would hate to leave att for verizon but they offer much better phones....

They won't.... The phone uses SOOOO much data its not even funny. They did the $30 without text to be more like the Blackberry and PDA plans which are already $30 without any text. They hooked ppl with the 200 text messages and thats it. iPhone browser usage is used exponentially more than Blackberry and PDA internet probably combined.. It uses more data than anyone has ever seen before. They have no need to bring the price down or include more text being that people are already willing to pay $30 without text for blackberry and PDA internet plans that are FAR less capable..

I am sure they will have some application in the APP store that will allow you to MMS. I doubt they would just let that one little thing be overlooked.

thats the one thing thats really holding me back from jumping to get it right now is the MMS...thats something i use A LOT right now. I was always wondering how the keyboard is on the touch screen since i text a lot. Im trying to figure out how much my montly bill would be with unlimited texts and 900 mins with my corp discount of 20%. im figuring around... $98 plus tax...maybe an extra $9/10...total of $110.00...not terrible but like 40 more then im paying now.

If you go and buy a Blackberry or Palm or Blackjack the data plans are $30 without any text.. Blackberry (as of now) is not 3G capable... Neither are most Palm devices. The iPhone 3G will be faster for internet browsing. The iPhone (due to the ease of use and speed) will be used more than any other device for mobile internet which is why they have to bring the price up a touch to try and make some money. People do not realize how much more data the iPhone is capable of viewing compared to any other PDA device. The 200 text messages on the old plan was just a way to hook people and make them want more and now the price goes up. So if you are trading out of your older PDA or smart phone you are losing nothing and gaining the most innovative de...

No its not as ATT streamlined the data plans to directly compare and market them like the pda/blackberry plans. This only makes sense for att to do what they did.
