Does anyone really know if the GPS is disabled on the 8830? How do you know for sure and if so how do I tell this is the case on the phone?

Thanks

I think you get 30 days now to return it.

The truth lies in the fact that it simply does not work as described on the BlackBerry site. If you set your GPS setting (Advanced Options) to Location ON and go to the Maps icon; the Maps DO NOT work to identify where you are. Said another way, the location of your device DOES NOT work.

The Blackberry site says the GPS for the 8800 series only, doesnt say for sure the 8830 has it. I hear sprint 8830 will have it, But the verizon for sure does not have it. You can use Blackberry maps and get turn by turn directions, but that doesnt use GPS to find you and follow you. I have read that VZNavigator will be on the 8830 soon, and also Vcast in general, but anyone paying $45 for unlimited data should not have to pay extra for the navigator, although if it was free i would use it, as it does work very well.

I have the 8830 for Sprint and the GPS is enabled. The only differences between the Curve and the 8830 is that the Curve has a camera but the 8830 has the music player and GPS(for Sprint, not Verizon). Other than that, they are the same phone. I doubt Verizon or Sprint will get the Curve ever because they are basically the same phone.

Sprint and verizon both have GPS on the 8830 however on Verizon it is turned off until they get whatever proprietary software verizon uses to make another buck. Sprint has it enabled i use it all the time with google maps and BB maps. Hope this helps.
