GPS Using Verizon

The 8830 implied that it had new GPS capabilities that prevoius Verizon devices DID NOT have. I now own the 8830 and simply stated the advanced GPS features DO NOT work. This was supported by extensive Verizon level 2 technical support.

so this phone will not work as a navigator? I had a enV which used the VZW navi software and gave me live turn by turn directions.

You are absolutely correct in that the 8830 will not function like your LG. Specifically, Verizon downloads the navigation system for the LG using GET IT NOW and there is not a RIM software path to get you there.

An outside vendor works (TELNAV or NAVTEL) on the 8703e for Verizon; however, it requires a matchbook size device in addition to the phone that defeats the purpose of a SMALL device.

P.S. I am keeping my 8830 because it is an outstanding devise in every other respect.
