Hi everyone, I've been looking at buying this XV6800 as my first smartphone. I have some questions though that I hoped you could answer.

First up is that I didn't want to get a data plan. I just want a phone that would allow me to open some word documents that I would put on the phone, and browse the internet via WIFI. When I went to the Verizon store the pushy salesmen went on a rampage when I told him this and he told me I was going to get insane data fees, because sometimes even when it says it's connected WIFI it's using the Verizon network. He also said that the only way to download updates is via the Verizon Network.

Now I have a feeling he was doing all of this to try and get me to upgrade my plan for something I don't need,...

just do what I did and screw what the salesperson said

get the phone its awesome!

call and have them block data on the plan that you have-this will make it so you can't connect to the internet through a cell network. Now you can just use wi-fi to get onto the net- they will probably tell you the same thing they told me though and that was if I block data I cant get onto the internet with wifi... again they are wrong, they are just being greedy on the data plans and giving people false information. as for updates you get get verizon based updates in the store and windows mobile update's through wifi or download it through your home computer and install it through active sync

get the phone though its a great phone!

If I have the block all data, can I still send text messages? If so that's what I'll do.

Last question, I swear. If I block the data and can't recieve pictures, and someone sends me a picture message, would it alert me that I can't recieve it, or alert them, or would it just be lost in cyberspace with them thinking I recieved it, and me never knowing I had one coming?
