A couple of questions

I'm a northern NJ Verizon customer, and I'm about to take a job in NYC, so I'm thinking about a smartphone for the first time. Verizon tends to cripple their phones, so rather than waiting for their broken version of this, I think I might switch to Sprint, but I had a couple of questions, both about the phone and about Sprint service in this area.

1) Does the GPS on the phone mean that I can install google maps for mobile and have that work for "free" with the cheapest Sprint $15/mo data access plan?

2) Anyone here have any opinions about Sprint voice and data service quality while on New Jersey Transit and in the city? I had Nextel years and years ago, and it was awful in my part of Essex County. I'm hoping the network improved?

1. No. It is GPS equipped but not in a good way.

2. I don't have experience in that area, but I have great reception pretty much anywhere I go. I have heard that reception isn't the best in NYC though.

3. After using the Mogul I can't even imagine that the 800w can compare.. But just my opinion.

4. Sprint is ok to deal with, customer service isn't the greatest. You do have 6 months from sign up to change the plan with no penalty, after 6 months you sign a new 2 year agreement when you change your plan.

Yeah, I just read about that GPS issue on another site. Not cool, but not sure if it's a dealbreaker for me. GPS isn't something I've used before, but it's something I WANT to try using, you know?

If the GPS is broken anyway, I could wait for Verizon, but of course, they'll almost certainly break the bluetooth, too. (And as an existing Verizon customer, I'd pay a FORTUNE for the phone, too.)

For GPS you could try doing the deal at www.mgmaps.com since the Mogul has Java installed you may be able to get that to work, but not sure.

Also, since you will have bluetooth 2.0 you could always buy an external GPS that would work with the Mogul.

Interesting. I'll give that a try. I went ahead and ordered one through the Sprint SERO site, so hopefully I'll have it in a few days and can try that out.

If you don't mind my asking.. how much are they charging for it on the SERO plan?

$388.99, but there's a $100 rebate.

The way I figured, even without the rebate, I'd be saving something like $35 a month thanks to SERO -- definitely made it worth my while to go this way and not the $99 eBay route.
