iphone version 2 - how soon?

Greyboy

Is anyone else gun shy to get the iphone because apple is infamous for releasing the next generation of the product so soon? This gets me thinking.

Now the iphone is $400 right? Is that with 2 yr contract? What is it without 2 yr contract?

In other words, if I buy this phone now for $400. And say version 2 is released in a few months, will new customers have to pay the same amount for the iphone 2 as I would even though Im in contract, or is there a discount for new customers (or customers with contracts that are up)

feedback appreciated - thanks

I'm curious, could you please define Apple being infamous for releasing the next generation of product so soon? I mean, I've had a nano & the 1st gen ipods and I don't remember some new amazing product released too soon. Seriously, facts please.

really? Thats all I think of when I think of Apple/ipod.

I guess one example that really bugged me is when they originally released the shuffle. WOW, HOW SMALL, AWESOME product... very shortly after, they released the nano with color screen. It put the original shuffle to shame for what, $50 more?

Heck, I have 2 ipods, a shuffle, and a nano at this point (2 of which were free but anyways...) All of them are 1-3 years old, and way out of generation. Do they still work fine, yes. But there are many newer versions with larger capacity that I'd rather have.

I don't think Im the first to bring this topic up, many people think apple is infamous for this. Its both good and bad: good because they are constantly improving their product...

i get what your saying greyboy...i have a fair share of apple products myself (iMac, two video ipods, and of course the iPhone). yes apple does like to release new versions very quickly. i got screwed when i got my imac because the 3rd generation with the intel chips came out a month after i got mine. also, they average a new version of an operating system every 18 months... compared to windows 5+ years. but anyways, i believe apple will not release, but "hint" at a new version of the iphone around jan/feb when the macworld event takes place. with contracts and such... any one can get an iPhone. this meaning existing customers or new. for existing all you have to pay is $20 more a month for the iPhone data plan. and a new customer is...

I am a huge Apple fan, but I, too, am waiting for version 2 of the iPhone. I am hoping that a good product will be made great. Maybe some announcement in January for a mid-2008 update? Is there a chance for that to happen?

I don't understand this question. No one knows anything, it's ALL speculation. I seriously doubt they would have iphone 2 so soon. But, that is MY opinion and speculatory thoughts.
