I just got off the phone with an ATT rep that told me I cannot buy an iphone if I am an existing customer unless my 2 years is up and I am eligible for a replacement???? WTF, I just signed up with ATT a month ago anticipating the release! Are all these people camped out waiting for a phone aware that they either have to sign a new contract or add another line of service?

True, you do have to agree to a 2 year contract, when you activate on iTunes. Doesn't matter wheather you are eligable for phone or not since you are paying full retail, no one gets discount. If you are existing customer, you can keep you same plan, just add iPhone data plan, starting @ $20. But you remove your existing data plan. So if you say have a basic plan that's $10./mo. You only have a net increase of $10. Not to bad. Oh & refined EDGE. I had a Nokia E62, with Symbian operating system. Moma had a Cingular 8125, WM 5.0. We could start @ same moment say to go to Flying J web (fairly grafical) the E62 35 seconds. The WM 5.0 over 1 minute, the iPhone 30 seconds. So I believe the operating system is quite important as far as speed goes al...

Q. I just upgraded my phone recently. Are there any penalties or restrictions for upgrading to iPhone right away?
A. No. Everyone can upgrade to iPhone right away, you just need to add an iPhone Data Plan (this may replace your current data plan but your voice plan will stay the same) and sign a new 2-year service contract. Discount eligibility for other devices will continue from the time of your current contract.

This is straight from att website.. Tell the employees at that store to read it..

I spoke to an ATT and apple rep and they said you must upgrade or sign new contract so unfortunately its true there not just selling it for $500.

It is possible you guys are reading what they are saying wrong...YES you do have to have a new 2yr agreement...I think the fact they are saying yes to the agreement that everyone is hearing that only and missing the point that the NEW AGREEMENT OVERRIDES THE CURRENT ONE...ask further..I am telling you yes on the new agreement ( anytime the contract period is going to change they are going to refer to it as an upgrade) no matter what but it will just restart it, the current contract becomes null and void as soon as you get the iphone.

True - you have to sign a new two yr agreement but it just replaces the one you already have, starts over from the day you got it..I have a friend who signed up two months ago in anticipation of the iphone & he got his & again it just overwrote the agreement he already had..Try again different location..I am a firm believer if at once you dont succeed try try again! 😁
