Activesync can't detect Blackjack

I'm hoping someone can help with my problem. I'm using Windows XP home edition with SP2. Installed Activesync 4.2 from the installation disc but when I connect my blackjack through USB, it says "your device was not detected."

I feel like I've tried everything. I disabled both my Windows Firewall and McAfee Virus Scan. I don't have any VPN software. I tried Activesync 4.5, but still the same error. If I set the storage card to Mass Storage Device, my pc can detect it fine and I can transfer files back and forth. But when I set the storage card back to Activesync, it can't be detected by Activesync. It does show up in the device manager though under Network Adapters as a Windows Mobile Device.

Have you tried deleting the Mobile Device (File -> Delete Mobile Device) and letting ActiveSync re-detect it?

I haven't tried that yet. Where would I delete the mobile device from, through ActiveSync? The only options I have in ActiveSync through File is Connection Settings.

Since the device was never recognized, there is no partnership to delete. Have you tried to connect it to another PC?
I had a Windows Mobile phone with a bunch of problems syncing, somewhat similar to yours. I returned the device for a replacement and the new one worked fine. It could simply be a defective phone.
Aside from that, I would suggest possibly doing a hard reset on the phone to get it back to factory settings. If that works, it could have been a conflict in the device. Of course, be sure to back up any important data first.

Yes, I've tried connecting it to my PC at work also with the same results. I will see if I can try it on another computer with no firewalls and stuff like that.

I also tried syncing my wife's blackjack on the same computer with the same results. So I'm thinking it must be some sort of configuration with my PC unless both of our Blackjacks are defective. Thanks for the suggestions.

I can't explain exactly why, but ActiveSync requires DHCP to be started before it will recognize your device.
