Am I considered a hater if I point out the fact that form factor wise this is the same as the Samsung D307 that Cingular had- which flopped because it was too flimsy? I just don't think that they made it any sturdier. But the up side is that VZW will insure it, unlike Cingular did.

Well, you may not be considered a hater but if you had looked at one review of this phone in the D307 posts indicating its many deficiencies , you would have realized that its reason for failing had NOTHING TO DO with the dual hinge approach.
Quoting from one review on the d307:
No memory card slots, camera, or color external display.
When in landscape mode ALL you can do is IM, NOTES, MOBIL MAIL, or SMS. You can't use the qwerty keyboard for any of the other phone features. NO POP3 or IMAP mail feature was provided.
So you see, there were many reasons why the phone failed but I don't think it was the dual hinge feature.
