My sounds - ringtone

I just got this phone and I;m having trouble trying to figure out how to do the ringtone trick. I used mp3 cutter to cut a segment of the song, and then renamed the file extension to MID format in My_Sounds, but nothing will show up on the phone. What gives? Is it suppose to be in another format?

I also tried to send a file from My sounds (a default sound) and I tried to save it under my ringtones but it wouldnt let me save it anywhere. I am confused about the whole ringtone situation. Is the only way to get a ringtone to pay? Because I was able to do the trick on my old motorola but not luck with this yet

I stopped by verizon today, they said that verizon has been crackin down on the illegal piracy of bein able to download your own songs on to there. because you cant access any of your my_sounds as your ringtones anymore. they said to either have someone from cingular send u the song or just pay for the ringtones...but i dont wanna pay $1.99 =(.

That not true. All you have to do it get the clip in either .midi or .qcp format. Once you do that, just send the clip to phone in a pic msg from any email address (10digit#@vzwpix.com). When you get the msg, go to options and save as ringtone. Magic, thats all. Well that works on my U740 since day one, and has work on numerous phones in the past. You won't be able to put files on mem card and save as ringtones. and I also noticed that if I save midi file in sounds folder and try to send it in msg, it says unsupported format. So send files from email and you are all set. $.25 is alot better than $2.99.

hope this helps..

There is a sight that I found a couple of weeks ago. Its myxertones.com. You can pick from ones already made or browse your computer and make a clip of your own. There is a button to push for verizon customers. After the first one i sent to my phone to test I was able to customize. Its worth a try and the best part is that its FREE!!!!
