MP3s as Ring Tones?
Ok, I have purchased a 256 mb micro card and loaded a few MP3s into my phone. But when I try to set one as a ring tone it says that it is "not allowed." They are full songs but I didn't think that would make a difference. The guy at the Cingular store didn't know for sure and said that the phone may not have the capabilities to use MP3s as ring tones. Is he right about this phone not being able to do this? Will it work if the MP3 is just a short clip instead of the full song? Please help if you can.

ok here you go this is how I get around the ringtone stuff. google funformobile then u get free uploads. Then you download wavepad for free also. Load up the song pick the part you want, go back to the site and they will send it to you as a text message. Costs about 10cents a tone! Also that allows you to have the exact part of a song you want as ringer! 😁

They have to be short clips. I dunno about them having to be on the phone, since I haven't received my card yet. But I used some software to edit some songs, and they do work as ringtones.

so does that mean that my 4 Meg song is too large of a file to use as a ringtone? if so, i can just get some editing software like you did.

This is the final assessment.
The MP3 file cannot exceed approximately 600KB. The actual length of the MP3 song is negligible considering that if you must shrink the size of the MP3, you would at least like to retain the sound quality. I use a program called Cool Edit. It's a fairly older program, but versitle and easy to use. Initially, I tried to degrade the sound quality to capture the entire song as a ringtone, but the quality was extremely poor due to bringing an average 5MB MP3 file to 600KB. From there, I came to the conclusion that I would simply use the editing program to crop my favorite portion of the MP3 song and retain the sound quality as well. So far, I've been able to preserve 39 seconds of playback with the MP3 reta...
