Any thoughts? I just don't understand why the Treo is $100 more and doesn't have wifi. Is there something I'm missing? Please help.

The treo 700w has a better build quailty, a better implementation of WM 5.0. It more 'one handed' friendly, has better reception, has a better speakerphone, has a better earpiece, and has a bigger battery.

I have both and even though I love my Treo 700w its being put up for sale. The only thing the xv 6700 doesnt have that i wish it did is the picsel browser from the i730 and the remote blaster. I like the slide out keyboard even though its becoming a pain to keep sliding out for text entry. but all in all its a great phone with a very nice footprint.

my cousin has an ppc-6700 and i have the treo 700. the nice big screen on the 6700 is a plus. but as the previous message stated, the quality of the device is not quite there. you hold it in your hand and it feels like its going to break if you drop it or open it wrong. the one handed on the 700 is SO much easier and the sound quality is a little better. i didnt play around with the video much, but the camera picture quality isnt too bad, probably the same as the 700 but i didnt really mess with it too much.

kinda like comparing an audiovox to an LG.... yeah they have the same features, but the treo is pretty much solid.

great question, I wondered the same my self. For the price, the 6700 can't be beat, so I bought it and couldn't be happier. The quality is great- its not Audiovox made device it's actually made by Utstarcom. One handed typing is allowed on the 6700, there is a mode called phone pad where when activated it looks exactly like a phone pad and u can txt using t9 just like u would on a regular cell phone.

sorry for the late reply, to enable phone pad u tap the icon in between the left and right soft keys. Once u tap on that to enable the entry mode u then tap on the arrow right next to it, a box pops up with the various entry modes

I just traded in my 6700 for a Treo. I had the 6700 for 4 days. The biggest issue I have is with the device is the inability to program auto dialing of my password on my voice mails. The Treo is able to use pauses and passwords and the 6700 cannot. The other issue is the use of the touchscreen for dialing when mobile. It is difficult to use to dial a number when the screen is off and especially when in direct sunlight. I could not even see the screen to dial. With the Treo I can touch dial with the embedded number keypad.

I barely used the slide out keyboard. It was cumbersome to use as a phone dialer and I found using the transcriber or touchscreen pad simpler

Overall my impression is that the unit is primarily a PDA with phone functi...

Dialing the phone while mobile? Any serious PDA user should be using a BT headset and voice dialing software. I hardly ever use the buttons on my LG8100, much less on a PDA.

I also find it hard to fathom that the VM password issue is that big of a problem that you traded it out for a Treo700.

To each their own. I have 3 different VMs to check, phone, office and cell and there is no provision to save the passwords.

If the phone worked well for me I would have purchased and added Voice Command. It is part of the Treo. I am switching from a Sony Clie PDA and it did not have voice function ability

From my understanding, there is no voice activated dialing software that comes w/ the 6700 out of the box. And even if you were to purchase a good one like the Microsoft set-up, the BT headset voice activated feature won't work.

If I'm wrong on this, please let me know... this is the main reason I did not pick up this phone.

There is a way to insert "soft" pauses (2 seconds) by entering "p" in the number. So for instance, I've got *86pp1234 (where "1234" is not my real PIN) programmed as my VZW voicemail number. Not sure about "hard" pauses, but that probably works too.

As for the voice activated dialing by bluetooth, there's a registry hack for that (I've not personally tried it.) Of course you have plop down $30 for the voice activation software. I haven't done that yet either. Don't miss it bad enough, and I have a basic problem paying Micro$oft extra to add functions to a $400 "smart" phone that most modern "mid-range" phones include right out of the box. My old LG 4000 series did voice recognition dammit, as well as an even older Motorola a couple ...

I do have MS Voice Command installed on my phone. I am able to speak to it via the bluetooth headset, but I still have to press the "listen" button (I assigned the voice note button to activiate VoiceCommand) in order for it to work. The process is thus:

Press bluetooth button to initiate link
Press VoiceCommand button
Speak.

I didn't have to make any registry hacks to do this.

On another note, I am able to listen to media files through the BT headset. No other phone I've owned allowed me to do this.

The issues:

1) I wish the bluetooth button would start voicecommand listening.

2) I wish, on an incoming call, voice command could initiate the bluetooth connection, announce the caller, and then letme answer with a tap of t...

*86ppxxxx#

When voicemail is connectted, I press the toggle down, this causes the password and pound tones to activate. I haven't played with it but a w may automatically cause the password and # to activate.
