Hinge Durability

I really like this phone. It seems to have many more pros than cons. Since this is my first flip phone. I'm still a little leery of the hinge durability. I always seem to be very gentle when I'm opening it. It just doesn't have that solid "stop" feel that some of the LG phones I've handled have. I also seem to be very aware of not putting too much pressure on it when I'm talking on it.

Can someone who owns this phone or the V710 please comment on the durability of the lid hinge. Is it fairly durable overall, or should I continue to baby it. Thanks for your input.

The hinge is very durable i mean do go bending it out of wack or put unusual amounts of pressure on it. If you push back hard enough when talking on it it will have the solid stop feel. It has some flex in the hinge and i think its for comfort when talking on the phone so maybe thats why it don't feel "solid" to you. I have the V710 E815 and A840 and they all have the flex in the hinge.

After I looked a little closer, I saw that the rubber behind it that acts like a bumper. This is what makes it seem a little soft. Like you mentioned, I guess that's a good thing. I guess I'm just used to the indestructible Nokia phones, and I'm being a little too over cautious with my first flip. Thanks for your reply.

I assumed that the rubber behind the flip when opened was adding that cushy feel. I still don't know how long it will take to wear a mark in the case by the camera lens though. I don't like the fact that it touches for that reason. Also, if you get some gritty stuff on the rubber, will be scratched/worn in no time.

Come on kids....grow up and quit complaining. It works just fine, just enjoy it or try another phone if you are worried about a possible scratch on it in the future. 😛

Besides, you will want a new one in 1 to 2 years anyway...right? 😁

This kid is 44 years old, and I was just asking a valid question about a new product.

The hinges are durable i have yet to have a hinge problem with a Motorola phone. Some people aren't use to Motorola products and if they aren't use to them they will wonder what is right and wrong.

😁 Having had a Moto T720 for over 2 1/2 years and now having the E815 for 2 weeks (ok, 2 weeks tomorrow) I have not had any problem with the hinges. And my 9 year old daughter hasn't been able to cause it any problems yet!!! 😉

If it passes the 9 year-old test, it must be durable. 🙂

I had a v710, and now an E815. The hinge loosened up a little over time, but was by no means sloppy.

As for the rubber bumper scratching the front of the phone, I am SURE that is why Moto went from high gloss black plastic, to brushed stainless steel above the camera.

The metal should be alot more durable, and not show the scratches with the brushed lines.

Thats the smartest thing If heard all day, especially since I was just thinking the exact same things to myself after reading the first thread. The overall consensus seems to be that we all notice the same thing, don't foresee a problem, and we all obviously think the pros outweigh the cons of the phone. ie:the hinge
PS: After only three or four weeks, my phone obviously collected some grime, I already have a mark at the contact point - no biggie
