Stupid... this is rediculous. Giving out an award, then making it public for a phone the public can't even get. Talk about Sprint being idiots.

It's rediculous in the fact that nobody that doesn't read these forums are going to have any idea what they are awarding (or why {advances from other phones}). They are giving an award to something that hasn't made one single sale yet! Not ONE! Yet they come out saying it not only deserves an award, but hell, here, have one! Geesh... Think about this for a second before you think my logic doesn't make any sense.

btw, I hear Maximum PC is giving ATI an award for the best newest video card! WOW! yeah, it's not even out yet, not in production, not anything, it has 512mb of memory and is 3 months away from being released, nobody has used it, tested it, played with it, put it to stress tests, basically nobody can say they've experienced it, b...

You're anger and logic would have made sense in November, but seeing as how the phone will probably be out in less than 2 weeks according to Sprint reps and Sanyo's own website. This isn't a phone 3 months away, this is a phone nearly released that is being hyped to peak interest after all of the delays.

Weasel has a point... to give a phone an award that no one, except for beta testers and the like, have been given an opportunity to put through the gauntlet is a flamboyant display of over-hyping.

OMG, what is wrong with you people, this award isn't being given by Sprint. It is coming from the people who are in the industry, who get to test, try out, and play with these phones well before the public gets it.

Its like the Academy Awards a movie/phone doesn't have to make a ton of money to be great. And the critics and their ilk get to screen/test out movies before the public. Think about it the 8100 is the best selling phone in Sprint history, did it win a whole lot of awards, no.

Secondly, this post isn't even in a common, easy to find place, as if Sprint was saying to the whole world please see how great our phone is. Its more for the people who are interested in this kind of stuff. It amazes that people will find any excuse t...

What I think you are forgetting is the following quote :

The award is presented by DIMA based on a comprehensive evaluation by a blue-ribbon panel of digital imaging editors and writers

as you see there are a group of editors/writers who haven't used the phone either. Technically the phone is on the website, with an availability date. Don't vid cards get reviewed or rewards before they are released to the public(to use your analogy)? Of course they do, every single new card/chip release is like that. This is a marketing gimmick pure and simple. It is there simply to say, hey look! our phone has an award..... For those who know what the award really is, they will glance over it and just move on. for those who don't understand,...

well, it'd be the same if a new car company awarded a car something that hadn't even shipped yet. Yeah, it's just a marketing gimmick, but for those who aren't duped into such gimmicks so easily they will see past the marketing gimmick. Just my thoughts...

but what happens if that yet to be available for purchase vehicle had OnStar(as if this was the first time it was ever available). Wouldn't and shouldn't it get acknowledged as being innovative/ first of its kind. Its almost the exact same thing for the 5600s award.

Yeah, it's just a marketing gimmick, but for those who aren't duped into such gimmicks so easily they will see past the marketing gimmick

actually this is exactly what I was meaning. If you understand the way things work, you won't care about it. If you do care about it, then you are either being fooled into thinking this award matters, or think others are being fooled in the same manner(I am pretty sure everyone here isn't being fooled). accept it for what it is, and lets...
