Will we see a cdma version of this on Verizon anytime soon? I thought I had seen a post on that at one time but cannot seem to find it.

There probably will be but it will be way after its released on either Tmo or ATT or both. I dont particularly like Verizon but they are due for a new Curve model and this one will probably be a good replacement.

I haven't heard anything specific, but I would be shocked if they didn't release an 8930 (CDMA 'Berrys usually end in "30") at some point next year. They're relatively consistent about bringing each model to all major US carriers... sooner or later.

Verizon will no doubt
1. Take out the wi-fi.
2. Make you pay for vz navigator to enable GPS
3. Bring the camera from 3.2 to 1.3mp rez
4. Release it to public in 2010 sometime
Maybe Q4 2009

If this phone comes out on Verizon unscathed with the juicy features enabled. I would get it.
the original Curve is still a very good phone.

I doubt it.

1. If they take out the wi-fi most likely they would make it a world phone adding the same features as the Storm. Verizon does have Wi-Fi phones.
2. Yes, w/ Verizon they'll make you pay to play.
3. The camera on the Storm is 3.2mps so you can expect this to be the same as well.
4. This phone looks like they put qwerty keyboard on the storm so it might be in the 1st quarter. They'll be dropping another qwerty BB b/c their due.

After the 8830 Global phone it will need a predecessor.

wow, you must not do must research do ya?

1. NO CDMA BB's have wifi. NONE. GSM needs because their signal is subpar in so many places (ask anyone with att). Verizons rev A eVDO is excellent and pretty damn fast.

2. Verizon just unlocked the curve and pearl. BB maps is now fully functional. They also unlocking all of their new smart phones by ...

and I've been with Verizon since they were
Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile.
And they were just going TDMA back then, Ohhhh
MicroTAC phone with green LED number display.
along with my BEEPER....

Sadly I'm old... apparently.
Either way you have to agree Verizon does at times nerf features in phones that were there in all the other carriers.
eg..V710=obex, Storm=Wi-fi gone, GPS in all their phones, disabled until you pay them the VZ Navigator fee, where its enabled on sprint, AT&T and TMo.

I agree, they have been guilty of crippling phones in the past, but they are starting to ease up on that a little bit (albeit slowly).

I think verizon is going to have some great devices in 2009 and hopefully they wont cripple any of them!

3. This one is just ridiculous. They never mess with hardware. Camera will be the same.

4. CDMA bold variant, code named Niagara is due out by May 2009. Maybe even sooner.

Glad you mentioned the specs. I was going to mention the Javelin, Niagara but you beat me to the punch. The Niagara will be tbe Curve II and Javelin ...

the jav is the code name for the GSM curve 2, the cdma curve 2 is codenamed "jupiter".

From what Ive read, the CDMA Bold will have wifi, but of course, that could change before release.

Should have a new BB for verizon by May-ish

Would make sense, while I have a Bold, I did talk to a VZW employee and he did say, they wish they had both the Storm and the Bold or a phone like the Bold for sale.

VZW is large enough they could easily provide both devices effectively. The same with AT&T. And who knows when and if they will get the Storm (Thunder) or another BB touchscreen phone?

AT&T might "take" a GSM variant of the Storm, but I doubt they're pushing for it. As much as people say it's an apples to oranges comparison, you'd have direct competition between the GSM Storm and the iPhone.

I hope not. BB9000 series I've seen don't have the Curve style buttons/keys. For me, the spacious buttons are one of it's greatest features.
