I'm on telus and planning to buy this phone with 128MB transflash card and USB reader. The money im spending on this is pretty big around 600-650CAD. Anyway, I want to know for sure if I get the card reader, and the transflash, with telus, can I store mp3 files onto the memory card and use them as ringtones? Nobody is giving me a straight answer so I just want one. And if yes, how do I do it with teh flash card. If no, why the hell make that option not available, how useless ☚ī¸

Telus will tell you 'officially' that there is no way to use BT for anything but pairing it with a headset. However if you use google you will find that there exists a hack that will allow you to use BT to pair the phone with a PC and transfer photos and mp3 files to the phone and the TF card, but if you kill the phone its your tough luck. If I were you, I'd seriously consider dropping telus and going with Rogers so you can get a real phone. The V710 is NOT WORTH THE MONEY. Its a fancy piece of junk, limited by Telus who want WAY TOO MUCH MONEY for it. Switch to Rogers, get a V551, a much better phone for half the price (if you sign a contract). I used to be with telus and I had this phone, I left because of their lies, poor phones and serv...

No you can't keep your number, you will have to get a new one, but thats a small price to pay to get a better phone and onto a GSM worldwide network.

Yeah instead of breaking my contract for 500 bucks, ill spend the extra 400 and give the phone to my brother with 2 years of a good plan paid for him. Then ill go on rogers and buy an unlocked V3 razr. Good plan? PS - Are all the numbers stored on the GSM chip, so i can swap from unlocked phone to phone w/o updating the book? Thanks

Also can i buy an unlocked phone and get Rogers to activate the chip on the phone for me or do i need to buy a prepacked phone and then swap the GSM chip. thanks

I don't know that rogers is selling the V3 yet and if they are it won't be unlocked, but you can get it unlocked. Your cell number and phone book are all on the sim, you can take the sim out and put into any unlocked phone and it will work, once the sim is activated thats it, it will work in any rogers phone or unlocked phone. You don't need to buy a prepacked phone.

You can always try and sell or give your contract away, this is what I did with my telus contract which I was only a year into (on a 3 yr contract) there was a $25 admin fee and telus talked to the guy who was taking it over (he got my telus phone number too, but had his own telus phone) and that was it, no penalty, nothing. You can join up and advertise your contract at www.howardforums.com that is how I did it. My contract was pretty nice it had free incoming calls for the duration of the contract. I don't know if your contract has anything attractive like that but you can try and get rid of it without paying any penalty.

I just got the 710 on Telus, and while you can't transfer pics or sounds via USB or Bluetooth, you CAN use bluetooth for data, and to sync phonebook and schedule info.
You CAN transfer pictures, and sounds via the transflash card, no problem.

How do you get them onto the TF card in the first place? The whole thing is why should you have to pay to use telus's online service to download pics and ringtones when other BT enabled phones allow you to do this for free?

I put the TF card in a reader on my computer.
Copy the files to the motorola\shared\ folders, then put the card in the phone.

I agree Telus shouldn't disable the ability to transfer files, Verizon do the same thing.
I've heard that Verizon actually disabled the ability to transfer ringtones/wallpaper via the card on their latest firmware upgrade. đŸ‘ŋ
