LG-VX8100 is a pretty slick phone. I work for your carrier. No one should have told you that the phone will NOT play MP3's. This is not true. The phone plays MP3's and can actaully work as an MP3 player. Depending on how many songs your storing on the memory cards.

MP3's to Ringtone's. Not possible. Will never be possible.
Hopefully this is not heartbreaking. Due to legalities you cannot convert MP3's to ringtones. Its not physically possible with Verizon Wireless phones.

As for your question about whichformat you need to convert mpeg's to...you need to convert them to .3gp I use IMTOO to convert mine and I have Seinfeld, Family Guy, The Simpsons, Dave Chapelle, Tripping the Rift, In Living Color,...
