3GPP Approves LTE Specification

A final set of specifications for Long Term Evolution has been approved by the 3GPP. LTE, which uses OFDM and advanced antenna technologies such as Multiple Input Multiple Output, is the next evolutionary step in the HSPA technology path. LTE will enable downlink peak speeds of 326 Mbps and uplink peak speeds of 86 Mbps, both with 20 MHz of bandwidth. It also reduces latency to a 10-millisecond round trip between handsets and the base station. So far Verizon Wireless is the only U.S. network operator to formally declare LTE as its 4G technology of choice.

The FCC this week approved two new Motorola phones that support 5G NR in band 70, the unique band definition created specifically to combine the unique collection of frequency bands that Dish Network has won in FCC auctions over the past decade. These are the first phones approved by the FCC that support band 70.

LTE only for Verizon - WRONG!

Verizon is NOT the only carrier who has announced they intend on using LTE. AT&T has announced it several months earlier. However, AT&T did state that they may use WiMAX for backhaul, so maybe that is where the confusion lies.
