MIPI

Mobile Industry Processor Interface

The MIPI Alliance was founded in 2003 to standardize the interfaces between various hardware components in mobile devices. The organization created and maintains a number of standards governing how the main processor chip should communicate with other components such as the display, cameras, modem, audio circuits, sensors, etc.

MIPI standards help create a broad ecosystem of easily interoperable hardware components that mobile device makers can choose from. This lowers costs and speeds up development time.

All major chip vendors use MIPI Alliance specifications, and all smartphones use at least one MIPI Alliance specification. MIPI Alliance specifications are in billions of devices.
