is it possible to have high speed internet for my laptop though a cellular phone ?!
I hope you will be able to help me.
This Summer I will be in Austria for a month and a half, but I will not be able to leave my work behind in the US.
I was wondering whether it is possible to continue to have high speed internet access on my laptop through a cellular phone.
Do you know of any carriers and phones that would allow me to do that ?
Thank you in advance,
Grazia

You can buy a cheap GPRS card for your laptop. That way you can simply pay locally for a wireless connection w/o using your phone.
Their are other models with different wireless carriers that can be used. I also used a GSM phone with Cingular, Motorola v400 my connection was slower but I was using GPRS, they have EDGE phones now with faster data speeds.
Remember they charge for data usage and you may have to sign up for a package or feature to allow this.

For a wireless consultant I sure do see a decent amount of answers that aren't relevant or accurate.
To use overseas GSM is what 70% of the world uses, so a GSM phone is recomended to roam and use your phone as a modem. The speed can vary the faster speeds are GPRS and Edge.

I took my blackberry to Trinidad a few weeks ago and it did not work. Cingular said to me they do not guarantee international roaming with voice or data.

The question is, how do you define "high speed"? It probably won't be faster then dial-up, and could be much slower.
Also, international GPRS roaming is quite expensive - you will want to look what's offered by the local service providers.
