Wifi phones....
I am on Verizon. I would like a phone with wifi. Any news on when one might be released?
Currently, I have a Q and love it. I would want something like it with wifi.
For those with phones with wifi, is there an extra service charge for enabling it? Or is it like having a laptop and it picks up free internet access in hotspots?
How does it work?
Thanks!

VZW, Sprint and ATT all seem to shun Wifi.
Att recently released the Q with wifi.
The reason they shun Wifi is because they dont make any money off of it. They are not compensated for your access to the internet or content that they cannot control.
They have their speedy 3G networks that you have to go through if you want anything off of the internet.
T-mobile doesnt have 3G just yet and they utilize wifi to a large extent. (hotspot at home and hotspots in general)

My my...good insights. Given the useage of the internet in most of our daily lives, I would say that this, in the long run, could adversely effect networks that will charge for something that others are giving away.. I'll have to check that Q out with ATT and see about it.

at&t phones with WiFi are the RIM 8820 and HTC 8925 (Tilt). Rumor is that more are coming. Equipment spreadsheet does not show the Moto Q as WiFi.

Not in the AT&T version. Does not show as such in the AT&T Equipment Spreadsheet, nor in the Phone Scoop specs for the Motorola Q Global / Q9h

Verizon is from what i hear supposed to be getting the HTC PPC6800. Windows based model similar to the Q and it has wifi. At least mine does with Alltel and should be same phone.

Good! Reckon they will charge for that? Or do wifi phones have a charge? Or are they open like a laptop to any hotspot?
