Dual-slider

My Razr has finally conked out and, with the awful service I'm getting from "the new!" AT&T, I refuse to purchase any other services from them. With that, I'm buying an unlocked phone.

And, looking at new trends in cell phones, I am absolutely loving dual-sliders and the form factor of the Helio Ocean, although that only works on CDMA networks.

Can anyone think of a comparable phone that's not that awful new Pantech?

the HTC touch would work for you.

its a lower end smart phone with a slide out keypad and a touch screen.

t-mo is getting ready to sell it.

Its not too complicated of a phone but its very nice, i played with one.

Glancing at previews, it looks COMPLETELY beautiful. Unlocked, though, it's running about $650. Ouch.

The only thing that's even comparable and in my price range is the Samsung I320. Pity my contract ain't up-- AT&T has a sweet Blackberry 8800 for $129.

Any other ideas?

And by the way-- thanks. You've been so, so helpful already.

...Oh. And I should mention, as I've completely fallen in love with this phone, that it IS available from Orange for £99 or free with certain plans from Carphone Warehouse. Unsure if that's locked-- I assume it is; although it is GSM, it's accompanied by a monthly plan.

yeah, orange is a UK GSM provider, like ATT.

the 99 lbs is with a contract. so yeah, you could order it online but they will want you to sign a contract.

Ugh. This is inescapable.

I simply cannot believe $600+ for a phone! And the NY Times Business section was just recently predicting a rise in phone prices from $50-200 to $400-500, with the expectation that youth would pay this.

well, i would say save your pennies.

There are times of the year that a new handset would be feasible, like tax time.

Most people get a return because they pay too much taxes. You could allocate some of that toward a new phone.

Or, even more horrific, you could just not buy a new phone and use your old one. Or you could buy a cheap one.
