Best phone with data plan

Anybody have any have input on good smartphones and bad ones? I am with Nextel right now and like it because it is easy to direct connect somebody but would like the blackberry but the $45 data plan is way too high. Any thoughts from anybody out there? Thanks

as far as having direct connect the blackberry is your only option if you could live without that you could do a treo or mogul and pay25 for internet 30 includes unlimited text
