okay, I side with all the "take care of your phone" people. One thing that kinda gets to me is a common analogy:
"If my TV breaks, my cable company isn't responsible/gives me credit/a new TV"
This is true, but not the best example. Better to refer to the set-top box. It is leased, if your box goes out (cable or dish) if it is leased, it's not yours and they'll repair/replace it. If you own your equipment, then you're at the mercy of any warranty/insurance you have. Yeah, you might have signed an agreement that's longer than your warranty, but still you were notified (in writing in most cases) that there was only a manufacturers warranty for 1 yr. And even if you're under contract and your receiver (TV or cell) breaks, too bad. not the comp...

okay, then! try this one on for size. if your girlfriend burns up dinner, the grocery store isnt going to replace it for you! 🤣

Here's the problem with all of you people that are taking the side of the phone companies. They don't give us a choice. I never said, hey sell me a phone cheap and subsidise the price. I appreciate that the phone companies do sell phones for cheaper than retail and I can also understand why you have to sign a contract for them to make upthe cost of the phone. My problem is that you don't have a choice, especially with CDMA and IDEN carriers. You have to use the phones they authorize, I would be happy to pay $400.00 for a phone that did what I wanted instead of paying $99.00 for a phone that has a few of the features that I want. and by the way if your cable box goes out for no reason it does get replaced, unless you bring it back in pieces, ...

Then switch carriers...

Cingulars customer service pretty much sucks, Verizon's customer service has never given me any problems. I have been too many places where I was the only person with a signal to switch to another carrier. I was just wondering if anyone was aware of a smart phone similar to the 8125 that Cingular had on their site for a few days, something that is not a PDA was coming soon for Verizon Wireless. However if anyone can get Cingular to get their network caught up with Verizon and get the customer service department trained I'll be happy to take another look at them. I would need a national carrier as I travel for work on occasion.
...
Unfortunately Cingular doesn't dump 4 Billion dollars per year into their network..
...
The LG VX 9800 might be a good choice on Verizon.
...
Actually, they do, but they have quite a bit catching up to do... and they still have to merge the ATT and Cingular networks and more.
...
You want T-Mobile. They have good reception, excellent customer service, & smart phones.
...
Too bad their network is too small, and it's gonna get a whole lot worse once Cingular unwinds its network from T-Mobile. It's going to be ugly for T-Mobile...
...
Cingular just spent millions upgrading to GSM, & also has roaming agreements w/ T-Mobile & other companies like mine (CellularONE). GSM will not be going anywhere for a long time.
My boyfriend has T-Mobile & I have CellularONE. We have virtually the same reception everywhere we go, & are hardly ever w/o reception. I've had Sprint, I've had Nextel & I am an avid fan of GSM.
...
OK...? WIth all due respect, I never said that GSM would go away, especially not with, what, 1.25 BILLION+ subs worldwide?
What I am saying is, T-Mo is going to have to really start building-out their network where they are entwined with Cingular, because the two are unwinding their networks from each other. Cingular is building their network, and doing a good job of it in those areas, but they have deeper pockets than T-Mo... unless daddy Deutsche Telekom wants to pitch in.

you can buy a phone for full price whenever you want, so don't say you aren't given a choice.
you can also go online and buy an unlocked phone for a gsm carrier, and use it to your hearts content.
If you want to be cheap, then sign the contract and get the phone at a subsidized price, then you have to deal with it. If you want to sign up for service, pay full price for the phone, then you aren't required to sign a contract.
I'm so sick of people complaining that they want free phones in my store. They want free phones, with no contract. If a company gives a phone to you for free, how do they make money? Don't say monthly service fees, because they have to pay salaries, network upgrades, new towers, advertising, etc.

Actually Verizon restricts which phones you can use on their network, so I am not free to buy any phone I want. I would go to a GSM carrier but in my area and the area's I travel in the GSM carriers either have spotty coverage or their customer service really sucks, and their sales people can’t figure out how to work the phones in the showroom then get pissed when you ask them if specific features are available and they don’t know.
...
yea well verizon is verizon. they also restrict bluetooth features, others do not. You could always buy a repeater and boost your signal in your area.
...
Actually in the Dallas area most any phone will work, it's when you head out into the surrounding area or in Rural Louisiana where my parents live. I still have only an analog signal in some areas.

Ha Ha... That's great, now, where can I find one of those? Ya know, a girl that cooks? :-)
