Is it possible to buy a PTT phone now for cingular service in Nov.?
I just read that Cingular's PTT service has been pushed back until November. I've been looking into buying a new phone for awhile now and do not want to wait that long. Could I just buy a compatible phone now and sign up for the PTT service later? The phones they are launching don't have many great features. What should I look for in a compatible phone for Cingular PTT? Anyone?? Thanks.

For a phone to be compatible with Cingular's upcoming PTT, it would have to have the Kodiak software on it. I'm not sure if you can get this configured correctly unless you get the phone from Cingular.

The Motorola V551 Cingular currently sells supports PTT.

not using Kodiak, it supports it over GPRS, which we did not choose as our solution.

the phones won't be launched until the service is launched. the ONLY way you might be able to get one is if an agent got some and wanted to sell it to you pre-release at full cost. that's a big "IF"

That sucks!!! I currently have the Motorola V220, my reception is bad, the camera is bad. I just want a decent phone I'll be able to use with the new service. The 2 phones they're launching don't seem that impressive either. Can't seem to find much on the D357-does anyone have specs on it? Wouldn't mind having the SLVR, but there's no telling when that'll be released.

the D357 looks to be a very nice phone, except it doesn't have a camera.

It needs to be compatible with the Kodiak PTT system. you may possibly pick up an unlocked version, but you may have difficulties trying to use the PTT if the settings are off.
The cingular phones that WILL work with PTT haven't been released yet, so it's going to be hard to find them.

What about the Nokia 6681-tht's a PTT phone, and isn't it offered by cingular?
...
it's the 6682, and while it is PTT, it's not compatible with the kodiak system...
