samsung A670 - warranty and CS

I have had my A670 since August 2004. Recently, the phone cracked at the display light.
Samsumg does not warranty "external" parts of the phone. I am very disappointed, because the only solution Verizon gave to me was to buy a new phone, or work with the broken one (it does not stay closed anymore). I did not drop my phone, I keep it in a verizon black cover to protect it. Simply, the plastic just cracked.
I called Samsung and they require 2-4 weeks to look at it, and will not supply a replacement phone. They also require a $65 repair fee. I asked if that was a base fee, but was not given a straight answer - he said "we keep your credit card on file" - doesn't sound good to me.

Does anyone have a similar situation with Samsung, ...

I have the same phone and have not had that trouble. But warranty does not cover any physical or liquid damage. Do you have insurance on your phone? That would take care of it but other than that, there is nothing else to do because of the warranty that is on your phone. I used to work for a warranty exchange program and that happened with other phones but I have not heard it happened to the Samsung.
