just keeps putting qwest even more desperate for mcip, so verizon should play the game with them. vodaphone did that with cingular for att wireless so verizon should do the same with qwest.

from $7 to $9 billion. so already qwest is incuring 2 more billion in debt. good job verizon!! keep it up!! keep bidding it up!!!

If Qwest's expected synergy merger savings fail to be realized (assuming Qwest prevails) Qwest would be in serious trouble (more so than they have recently been in). How would they be able to pay the 9 billion? What about the additional competition from vodaphone type services? I do not know the details of the Qwest proposal but it would seem to me that they must rely heavily on the savings from the merger and expected market growth. I know MCI shareholders would like the high bid price but the higher it goes (from Qwest) they must get to wondering if it is like the emperor's clothes.

yea, qwest is toing to be in trouble. what they will do is add it to their debt or pay most of it by stock. competition from wireline? well thats interesting. wireline business is starting to go down.

if i was mcip i would chose verizon over qwest becuase verizon has a bigger growth story then qwest.

yes the wireline business is declining but that is all qwest has. It will also take some years before the pots infrustructure is no longer useful. I will say that Comcast's investment into upgrades has finally paid off. They are taking many customers away from Qwest.

Qwest already is simply a reseller of wireless and I believe some DSL. What else are they providing that they can be competitive? Folks use them simply because of the exisitng infrustruture. I myself use a reseller of their lines for my landline.

they dont have any assets that will be competing, in my opinion. they are very desperate for getting this deal done. they will probably lose either way if they get the deal at a higher price or if verizon gets it. my opinion is that qwest will be going chapter 11 soon.

verizon and sprint wont pass regulatory bodies. plus the divestitures that the gov will make them do will be a lot more then verizon will want especially since verizon has a nice spending spree going. verizon needs to focus on mcip and buying out vodaphone. not sprint not nextel. just mcip and vodaphone for verizon wireless. thats it.
