Does anyone know for sure if there will be a non-camera version of this phone?

Yes. In fact, the better question is if there will be a version with a camera... the impression I got from Samsung at CTIA was that the answer might be no...

I thought I read in the news article on this site that stated the i730 coming out this year would have a MP Camera, but the i830 coming out next year would not. But I might be wrong. The reason I asked is because I read other articles on other sites that said verizon might release the i730 with and without a camera sometime during the 2nd quarter. Unfortunately I am not aloud to bring a camera phone into work and I would like to get this phone.

Yes, Samsung has developed versions of the i730 both with and without a megapixel camera. Same for the wi-fi feature. It is up to the carriers whether they want to offer it with either or both those features.

The latest I've heard is that Verizon has chosen (initially, at least) to offer it with wi-fi, but without the camera.

That will work for me. Will verizon continue to disable the OBEX bt profile with this phone as well?

I don't think so. That only applies to BREW phones. Verizon's Windows Mobile phones with Bluetooth do support OBEX.

And I did specifically check on the i730 at CTIA. The one they had on display had an "OBEX FTP" application right in the main programs menu.

Awesome, I hope that happens. I have the v710 right now and I am not happy with the bluetooth capabilities, especially when I play with my brothers v551 for cingular. But I have to get rid of it (do to the camera) when I start my new job this summer and I am looking forward to getting the sch-i730.

Do you know if verizon will allow you to use it as a BT modem for a laptop on the EV-DO network as well? I have read rumors that many of the new EV-DO phones cannot be used as modems on verizon.

Thanks again for info.

No, I don't think so.

The Samsung guy I spoke to said there might be specific limitations/exceptions with that, though. Something like you could use BT to access the Internet via the i730's wi-fi connection, but not EV-DO.

That wouldn't make much sense, since any laptop with Bluetooth probably also has wi-fi 😕 ... but Verizon's limitations will be something similar, is what I was told.
