i noticed that verizon still has push to talk phones on the line for coming soon. I was wondering what the latest word is with verizon push to talk, especially now that nextel merged with sprint. Does anybody out know anything concrete about what to expect with new phones, service, and the quality along with the speed talk. Is there going to be a relaunch and if so when, Drew

I don't know about a relaunch. Expect some real competition between the New Cingular and the new merge between Nextel and Sprint. 😎

As well as renewed competition from Verizon...WHEN they get around to relaunching.

I've demo'ed the "new & improved" Verizon PTT. Still very slow on the initial connection. IMO it's still not ready for prime time.

Verizon doesn't have the technology in that department to ever make "prime time".

Not true... In fact I have heard through the Rumor Mill that Verizons new PTT has no delay. I haven't seen it, but I hear it is quite competitive. In my opinion direct connect/Push to Talk is intrusive anyway, (not that you were asking my opinion), but with so many carriers offering free to other subscribers, it seems not so important. Calls between most carriers to other subscribers of that carrier is free anyway.

And as far as "Verizon never having the technology to ever make prime time..." I wouldn't speak so soon, the cellular business is extremely competitive, things can change very quickly... Who knows what 6 months could bring, and from whom????

I don't know when they are going to get around it but I wish that ATTWS and Verizon did the merge. Verizon has great service but Cingular has great Family plans and phones. So I hope for the best in this whole competition. 😉

I've heard Feb 1st as the release date for Verizon's PTT, not sure how good it's going to be but I guess we'll see. PTT and new price plans, life is sweet at Verizon

what to expect ?
less service, higher fees, a general tide of mediocrity forecefully spoonfed to the impotent consumers strapped down to an indistinct, semi monopolized industry.

why do you think my plan, which is 2000 mins for 70 is no longer available ? lessened competition is going to send us back to the stone age.

global phones to the rescue ?

from what i heard the problem with the release is the phones, not the service, my indirect store has had the price plan brochures for months collecting dust
