Verizon dishin' out the Kool Aid

Just spoke to a Verizon rep on the usual complaint everyone has about their phones. As expected, the rep could not give me any concrete answers on what to expect from Verizon's phone offerings. Was told that management is aware of the issues brought up by their customers. Note to Verizon: Hearing and Listening are 2 different things. After being loyal to Verizon for 7 years, should I bolt for Sprint or AT&T for better equipment even though their "networks" supposed to be inferior?

That is a matter of personal choice, and what works out better for you. If you want a new phone with a lot fo great features go with At&t, you want a crappy Hackberry that is at least 3 years old in comparison to the rest of the market stick with Verizon.

Verizon's network is larger in coverage than At&t, but if aren't travelling out to Po-Dunk, Idaho then why should coverage stop you?

Verizon restricts alot of manufacturers' features on their standard phones, and they don't exactly keep up on the PDA crowd too well. Wifi has been enabled on some phones for over a year now at other carriers, and Verizon is just getting the first taste of it with the i760.

Thanks for the feedback. I had been with Sprint and AT&T (the Death Star) way back in the day. Since I work in sales, coverage and reliability have been paramount to me. Nearly all of my business partners are on Verizon due to the best coverage around the state. I have thought seriously of moving on to the other carriers but want to feel that I am making the right move because Verizon has failed to meet my needs. I will give Verizon a couple of months and make my move if they continue to rely on their egos to figure out what their customers want. Reliability of service is one thing... Giving me a reason to use your network more often is another thing equally as important. Its all about the might $$$ with Verizon on which phones contr...

Sorry, didn't really hear what your issue was...

"what to expect from Verizon's phone offerrings"...what are you asking for?

"management is aware of the issues brought up by their customers"...what issues, like, why we don't give out free pda's because you've been with us since the invention of the wheel, or the ever popular, I lost my brand new phone and don't have insurance, can I have a free replacement?

If you wanna troll, try Lake Mead next time.

Sorry to give you the impression that I was trolling. Like everyone else, I have been very disappointed in the PDA/Smartphone offerings from Verizon. For me, I need a windows based device (cuz work doesn't support other platforms), wifi (if possible), a decent amount of RAM and ROM to run 3rd party apps efficiently, great battery life, and a small form factor (current Verizon smartphones are the size of a brick-a phone like the HTC Vouge/Touch would be a good start). The new data packages seem ok. Each robot CSR I speak to at Verizon seem to give me the company line that their Next phones are the answer to my needs. In fact, I mentioned my the requirements I posted above and the CSR rep pointed me towards the Pearl. As you can tell, thi...

I have been with vzw for so long only because my wife and majority of all of our friends are with vzw. I agree with this thread 100%. I have said for over a year now vzw is so behind in technology whenit comes to their phones. I mean i heard that they are suppose to be getting the treo 755 for the holidays and calling it a new phone? that phone isn't new it's been out for quite some time now. just like the person who started this thread i need my phone for the same purposes and then some. I will admit we are starting to ask our phones to do every thing under the sun, but it looks like At&t is headed that way with their phones. I have the new Q9m and i'm really not that impressed(especially since my co-worker has the iphone). I like the netw...

Had VZW released the XV6800 when Sprint released the Mogul, I would have bought one immediately. After reading the Sprint forums about the Mogul problems, I am happy that VZW lets others test the phone first. HAD VZW been "current" with new technology, I would have bought a phone that is unusable for business calls due to its BT issues.

Sometimes slower is better, especially if one prefers functionality over sexy looks or cool music.

If you are that disappointed with the phones, and now seeing as how sprint and others almost entirely include roaming on their packages now(I'll focus a bit on sprint since i'm a rep), if you have CDMA service like sprint and verizon, when you have one company's phone, you really have both company's networks.
The difference just what network you call more often and where your free mobile to mobile is. Sprint tries to overcome their smaller m2m network by offering 7pm nights and weekends as a starting point with a 6pm option. one other thing sprint offers that no one else does is free incoming plans with outgoing minutes ranging from 300 to 1000.
Sprint's unlimited plan (text, pc, vid, voiceSMS, tv, radio, navigation) is only $30, too...

Thanks for your perspective on things. I have done a lot of research on the different phone companies. That is why I set up this post. I had been with AT&T and Sprint back in the day. For each service provider, I left because of coverage issues (i.e. my phone was roaming while I spoke to a family member 20 feet from me). Since I work in sales and most of the people I interact with are with Verizon, moving to a different carrier may be a little tough. You know... In-Calling Minutes... Still open to making a move as long as my coverage is rock solid. Been with Verizon for 7 years and have been good to go with coverage. If Verizon doesn't get it's act together in the next couple of months, this new CDMA HTC Palm clone may not do it for...

you may already know this, but in case you don't, go to sprint.com and click coverage near the middle. You can get street level coverage maps there, including putting your own address in, or any other address .. use the "powersource coverage" option and it will show you sprint's nearly exact home coverage area, and there is an option to overlay the EVDO coverage as well. If you use the Sprint coverage option, it will give you detailed coverage in higher populated areas, plus their roaming coverageshaded differently.

Just to add in, I live in an area where sprint does not yet have EV-DO, but Verizon does, and I can set my phone (moto Q) to roam only and pick up VZW's EVDO coverage to use on mine...with no roaming. So if sprint's cover...

my problem isn't with the coverage mr jb my problem is and has always been with the technology of vzw phones. i have always said vzw is sooooo far behind when it comes to phones. I mean why are they just now getting the treo 755p, when sprint has had it for so long. why not get another treo that we have'nt seen yet instead of getting something old and calling it new.

well just like the iPhony, sprint had an exclusive agreement for the 755p for 6 months i think, so it is new to verizon. but if you want a hightech phone go check out the HTC Touch. a couple reviews on phonescoop called it an iPhone killer (their words not mine)

to big showjb,

I am a Sprint rep, and I have to be honest, unless your a midget with tiny little fingers and lots of free time to spare, the touch isn't all that great. the windows platform on it is sluggish, and the menu icons may look cool but are decieving as to what each actually does. I've already sold 3 since its release, and have been able to maintain the customers but two of them opted out of the touch into a palm centro for one, and into a mogul on the other. Now the mogul is great because of the qwerty keyboard, thats a phone i can sell to business people on the go who do a lot of data on the net. but for the joe schmo that wants a super gadget phone, i still shy away from the touch. atleast for now, until the flaws are recog...

Yeah i wroe that before I actually had one in the store but hada chance to look at one briefly at another store. since we gotours in, I've hada better chance to look at it and i see what ou mean. On the flip side of that, with regards to the software, a guy who works at our other store put the ipone software on his Mogul and the same can be done for th touch to make it a little more usable.

as far a s the centro goes, talk about needing to be a midget with tiny fingers!!!! those keys and screen are too damn small for me. I'll pay for a mogul, treo or stick with my Q for now.

I work next to a verizon kiosk, and they are NOTHING but huge snobbs who like to dress up for work every day. One girl there gave me the middle finger when I asked her what time it was. Not to mention they have 6 sometimes 7 people working in the kiosk at a time staring at me all night- I would definately SWITCH! I had sprint a loved them! (Until I dropped my phone in the toilet)

I agree with you that the big carriers may not have well trained employees. unfortunately, the people who need to answer questions from customers are hiding in their ivory tower. That is why they use CSRs to cover for them. These reps can only chant the company line as we all have expressed in this post. I have considered jumping ship but have to consider that I use 2100-2250 In-Calling Min and 1400 peak min with Verizon each month. If I go to Sprint my allowable min will skyrocket and work only gives me an a fixed amount each month for cell phones. Tough decision.

Maybe one of the drones at Big V should pass this link onto the brain trust of the company before we end up getting bag phones as the lastest and greatest from Big V.

If you need your phone for work, and Verizon is the network your company uses, I would stick with them.

I understand your concerns and aggravation with phones not being released, but hey, every wireless company has problems. Sprint certainly has their share, as well.

You pointed out that your coverage with Verizon is better where you live and work, and you use a lot of "in" minutes, calling other VZW customers. To me, that's the most important consideration, not who has the "coolest" phones.

I have Nextel because of work. Many of my co-workers carry two cellphones- their Nextel and their personal cell. I personally think that's stupid. Carrying one phone is awkward enough, but TWO is just plain unmanageable.

Also don't forget that with most Nextel phones are two line phones; you can have one line for work plus your personal line in the same phone. Two different numbers, two separate bills, sent to two different addresses, all within one phone. Another nice feature that to my knowledge only Nextel has. Works very well if you have Nextel coverage at both work and home areas.
