I personally believe, (and I have no basis for this, except just watching) that Alltel put out the rumors for sale to inflate their stock/worth! I don't think they have any intention of merging with anybody.

I think you are right if you look at how many billions of dollars people say they want to sell for, it is just nuts, people complain about the phones, but I do not think they have the latest coolest ones but for the most part they work.

well as far as I know Verizon isn't going to put in a bid for Alltel unless Cingular does, and they will only put a bid in if Verizon does. Now as far Sprint/ Nextel goes... they are just too poor to be able to compete

The rumour mill at work right now (I work for Cingular/ATT SSG) is that they want to buy out Alltel. That just what I have heard. Either way it's not a big deal anyway.

I just love how Alltel advertises on their website that they are "America's Largest Network" with only 12 million subscribers.

(While I know that the amount of subscribers does not by any means equal the network witdth, it does however show that they are not the largest. Would the largest network not have many more subscribers?)

Yeah kinda like that, lol. Every company has its flaws, and in a cellular market such as the United States, every company has to somehow make themselves "seem better than the rest"

Six months ago I would have jumped your neck but after being in for a little bit I've learned better. AT&T does have dropped calls. Alltel lies out the ass. Verizon doesn't have the largest network. And having both AT&T and Verizon I can honestly say they are damn close in comparison as far as network. AT&T was definitely better but I was also using a Moto v265 on Verizon.

You should check out a population density map of the USA and then you will see how the largest network can be devoid of customers.

Alright, I'll link one here:

You'll see that there's a lot of nothing in a lot of the country. Also Alltel serves only a part of a lot of the states. Guess which part? The parts without many people.
