I am new to this part of the country. I did alot of research on a new cell provider. Cinglular was great where I was from, But here in New Mexico they are still lacking in the service department. Thought I would give alltel a try. The research I did lead me to beleive they would have good service here. I was trying to not use verizon. Well got the service 6 days ago, and it does ok, but does not work in the areas the alltel clerk said it would. Yes it was an alltel store not a mall booth. I would like to know what my options are for getting out of the activation fee as well. I know they have a 15 day cancellation. So I know I can get out of the service agreement, But am I still responsible for they activation fee. Verizon is not charging an ...

sorry but I'm quite sure that they would still end up charging activation. if you physically activated your phone and have been using it, than.. yeah... ACTIVATION FEE. now, is it that you do not get service where you NEED IT (being work and home) or that you just done get it every where? i have waived activation fees if a phone works at a customers home, yet not at work, and the opposite. now, i have refused to waive activation if there are spots here and there that it does not work, simply because NO SERVICE CAN HONESTLY WORK EVERY WHERE. and honey, done know if you know this, but if your pretty little triangle is blinking at the top of your phone, you are using verizons service. your just not paying their outrageous prices. best advise, c...

Thanks for the advice. The only thing a might question about the roaming on verizon is this. I was at work in this small town north of here and my buddy's phone was working, he has verizon and my phone had no signal. Should it always roam when verizon is available or just some times?

your phone will always try to attach its self to an alltel tower first. if there is one present, (no matter how low the signal may be) it will stick. i live in San Antonio, where there is no alltel service. the closest tower is about 1.5 hours north. my phone acts like the default is verizon. say if i call tec support some times, or if a network is down, or if i do the * action to update my roaming parameters, i actually get connected directly to verizon tec support. (weird... hua!!) now if your in an area where your phone can not fully obtain an alltel signal, your phone will find a verizon tower. this explains if your connection time takes a bit. i look at it this way.. the only reason i stick with alltel is because i get service ALMOST ev...

Strange....I thought they had a decent network in New Mexico, they certainly do in AZ...where did you move from? If Cingular had good coverage there it was probably a densely populated area. New Mexico is fairly rural in some areas. Your phone should have been picking up that Verizon signal. Also, what kind of phones were involved when your friend had service and you did not? Your friend may have had a trimode phone and was on analog signal, while your phone is all digital so your phone wouldn't pick up what they had.

Yes yours is a trimode phone. Although Treos have really good RF. And LGs don't get great reception so you had worst of both worlds. Seems like you should have gotten some type of signal... I think Kyoceras are probably the very worst. The best are Motorola and Nokia. But anyway, I would consider a different phone, but if not then get out before the 15 is up. I believe you can get out of it and possibly the activation fee depending the rep that does the return for you. Make sure you tell them that it isn't working where you were told it would.

Well DO remember Alltel has America's largest wireless network! Alot bigger than Verizon so i would say don't go to the Alltel store we have a few ways to fix problems like this... 😉
