Can someone please tell me why is Verizon W and Cingular are so expensive?

60 + 10
for just 500 anytime family plan?

Cingular W
50 + 20
for 600 anytime family plan

Alltel W
60 + 10
for 900 anytime and you also get unlimited mobile to home as well!

And Alltel has just as good coverage as the BIG GUYS ....

is everybody missing this or is this just me?

by the way the new logo kicks a**

With Verizon, their family plan begins at $ 59.99 for TWO phones, additional lines are $ 10.00.
Sorry.. had to correct ya. The only thing I don't like about Alltel is their phones and the plan you were referring to (National Freedom) only covers you in about 85 % of the US, ...

only problem, in order to eliminate roaming charges, those carriers had to elimate the ability to use other carriers towers.

so where you used to be able to get signal and roam, you are now unable to use your phone at all!

Cingular with no Analog available at all does not give you near the coverage of Alltel or Verizon so by my math Alltels 85% is still greater than Cingulars 100%. BTW don't try the argument that you wouldn't want analog anyway, bet you would if you broke down in rura

and the kicker is... When Alltel completes the acquisition of Western Wireless, Cingular customers will be using Alltel's GSM network to fill in many of the holes in its own network!

*moves the bar down a couple notches*

so if its filling in the holes doesnt that make the bars go up?

ROFL..Cingular has no roaming, thats because they have a pos network. Comparing Alltels National freedom network to Cingulars network is night and day. That's just the dumbest thing I've ever heard. lol Nextel has no roaming either, why don't you go join them?

Its not a pos network. I work for vzw and believe me I take every chance to point out when someone has a made a good point about why cingular is weaker. However that isnt the case here. Take away the light blue roaming areas on alltels network and its not night and day. How many customers can you talk for free to on alltels network. And does alltel have roll over? Does alltel have as many store locations if you need service done to your phone/bill?

In the areas that ALLTEL covers, they have a veritable plethora of stores in the area!

But with Cingular, as almost all other carriers, if you want many things done (other than activations, upgrades, and adding features) you are handed a 1-800 number. I don't see how the number of locations enters into it if they aren't empowered to do many of the things an ALLTEL location can.

Alltel stores can do anything you may need done on your account--name changes, promos, upgrades, insurance claims, warranty repairs, activations, bill payments, and nearly anything else. No need for a call center! Now THAT'S customer service!

Not so bad, even though I'm working for ALLTEL in name only right now! We don't have any systems or anything in place yet, we go live on August 1. I am so pumped I can't wait for it. I t will be so refreshing from the way ALL other carriers sell their services! 😁

We still have to use ATTWS' crappy systems and pass out the call center numbers until we officially begin using the Alltel branded equipment and CDMA activation systems... ☚ī¸

Yeah, I personally prefer ATTWS systems to the crappy Cingular systems... I don't know. maybe i should go see if Alltel is in my area.

Saying no need for call centers only means there arent enough customers to warrant them. If you travel into my area you will hear "whats alltel?". So like I said lack of centers can be bad even if its just for market presence.

I beg to differ. You see, the difference is customer service vs. customer care. Most people (me included) would EXPECT to walk into your carrier with a problem and be handed an 800 number and talk to somebody in India for an hour or two to get a solution that doesn't fix the problem.

I would much rather work with a carrier that has a couple people on staff in the stores that are specifically there for a customer service role: fixing/repairing phones, resolving billing problems, issuing any credits that need to be, and making sure the customer has a very enjoyable visit to the store! It would blow my mind if I walked into a store with a defective phone and the rep went in the back and pulled a replacement phone off the shelf for me to have...

Look, i'm not going to get into a heated, mud-slinging debate here. I've seen what comes of that, and that's not how Alltel does business. I'm sorry you feel that way, but I haven't seen any evidence to show me that Alltel sucks. Everything I have seen shows me how much they care about their customers and their employees.

If you can show me any evidence other than "their service sucks or I can't get a signal in Mooseport, MN" I would be happy to look at it. But from a company stand point, they are on very solid footing, and have an extrememly low churn rate. It seems that the majority of their customers agree with me!

I was at lunch with several business associates today and at the restaurant we were eating at one of the guys who had Cingular was B****ing that he couldn't get a singal, I pulled out my Alltel phone and Bam 4 bars 😁 , this is a major metro mind you not the sticks, the other guy with us who also has CIngular said his coverage has been spotty since he went to the GSM phone. I have no complaints about Alltel's service and NO I DON"T WORK FOR THEM, I just appreciate getting what I am paying for!

"cingular has 50 million mobile to mobile. Now what?" a lot of freaking good that will do you if you can't get signal to make the call to one of your 50 million suckers, oops I mean customers! 😉

Yeah Ive heard that Cingular doesn't get great coverage in a lot of placed down there, I live in Branson missouri though and even in places outside of town where Alltel still uses analog I have Cingular service, thats why I switched, and I didn't want to be roaming everytime I went outside of my area.

Yea, Alltel is cake to sell in Florida. Its the 4th largest state in the US (3rd minus Alaska), and the Greater Freedom allows these old people who never leave the state to get an affordable plan and not worry about roaming fees. But what what gets to me are customers who think they are only allowed to CALL TO places in FL, not BE IN FL. Do they actually think we're selling local home phone service on a cell phone...? Roaming apparently is hard thing to grasp for some people... 🙄
