Caller ID?
I'm hoping to get some help from someone who maybe works or has worked for Alltel...I work for Cingular but I have an Alltel phone (I live in the boonies where we don't' have Cingular service) and my caller id has not been working. When I call in they tell me that my number is not caller id compatible 😕 and that there are no numbers available in my area that are caller id compatible. I know that sometimes phones can not be compatible with caller id but this is the first time I've ever heard of a phone number not being compatible....help??

Yea thats true, that was the case here where I live. When Alltel first launched service in the early 90's the only prefix we had to chose from was prefix 572 and that prefix wouldn't allow caller-id to work. See alot of carriers lease numbers from the local phone company in the area to save money, and in turn the caller id won't work because of some technical reason. That was also the case here with Verizon. But since then Alltel and Verizon have released there own numberd and stopped leasing them from the phone company and everything has been fine. I bet if you have another Alltel person call your phone the caller id will work, it just won't work from a number outside of Alltel. If you can deal with it request a number outside your calling ...

Ok thanks from what I understand there is some local numbers in my area that are caller id compatible but there are not any more available at this time...they told me to keep checking back so maybe I'll get lucky. Thanks again for the info!
