wut ever happened to alltel and vzw merging?
i thought i saw on here not too long ago that verizon and alltel were going to merge like att and cingular did. wut happened? i think they should really join. they would have the biggest network. they already use each other's towers for roaming...but use cdma, and both use about the same phones. i really hope they do join...that would be great

Alltel has always been Alltel thats what I've always liked. Plus I read somewhere that Alltel is the biggest Regional Carrier so I doubt they will ever merge with Verizon, but hey who knows...only thing we have to gain is faster data and better phones, we already have Verizon's coverage.

I think that IF Verizon were to merge with anybody, it would be ALLTEL. Our network equipment is very similar (Lucent tower equipment), our billing systems are similar, etc. I think an ALLTEL / VZW merger would be more likely than a Verizon / Sprint merger, because Sprint has a HUGE debt load and the networks, while both are CDMA, are JUST different enough to cause problems.
