Our contract with Alltel expires in March. When on the phone with a CSR they told me we could upgrade our phones if we wanted.
Currently my husband & I both have the Motorola T720. My phone works fine but my husband's phone really sucks. I want a different phone & thought my getting another phone & let him have my T720. But after looking at the limited choices I am not so sure I want to extend our contract. My husband really likes the LG 5550 & I do too except for a couple of things. I want a phone that if it doesn't have a camera it will allow me to transfer pictures from computer to the phone. I also want a phone that I can assign ringtones for the callers in my phonebook so I do not have to worry if certain callers call & not have to lo...

My wife has the 5550 and likes it very much. There is a program you can download called exigo that will allow you to download pics to your phone, but honestly it's a pain. The Motorola 710 is coming. Maybe that would be a better choice.

Whewwwww I was just reading some reviews of the 710---it got slagged pretty bad. I'm hoping to get a test phone soon to check out for myself. I'll keep ya posted.

The LG 5550 is an outstanding phone with very loud speaker, great voice recognition ability, good 65k color screen with wallpapers, ringtones, and more. You can assing photos to contacts (not sure about ring tones but I'm sure you can). You can also get a USB data cable and upload graphics and ringtones via programs like Bitpim.

If you want the best though wait for the Motorola V710. It's a great phone with all the bells and whistles. If you want a great phone period, get the LG 5550

Thank so much.
I think I will get the LG 5550. I don't care about a camera because I have my digital camera with me where ever I go.
Now to try & find one at a decent price. Alltel says I will have to pay full retail now but if I wait until January I can one at the lower price & extend my contract. That is all well & good but I need a phone now. Both mine & my husband's Moto T720 are shot. You cannot charge them. So I have to take the batteries to a store in the mall & pay them 5 bucks to charge them for me.
Again thanks for your help.

All you need to do is clean the charging contacts at the bottom of the phone. They get grimmy for some reason. It should work then, and if not just spend a few seconds wiggling the cord until it charges. Hey sounds like a hassle, but better than paying 5 bux to get the battery charged!

We tried all that but nothing worked. Even when you wiggle the cord, all it will do is turn the phone on but will not charge. Even after it turns the phone wiggling will still not get it to charge.
Thanks for your help though, it is appreciated.

The 5550 is a good phone. As far as the 5450, do not buy it, The reception does not compare to the other phones. The motorola v710 will debut for alltel shortly, it actually has a lot of the features u are asking for. Not sure about price, however I'm sure it will be about the same. Alltell has been testing this phone for several months to make sure the reception will be superior to the 720 and bl120e. Also rumors of a new LG coming out b4 christmas. Not sure of the model. The 6000 is a GSM phone which works on an entirely different mhz level than Alltels CDMA system. As far as the charging port on the 720 try scraping the left 3 copper terminals on the port w/ a push pin a couple times and spraying it w/ canned air. Hope I helped, l...

Thanks for the info Strick6.
I have tried scraping the terminals but luck. 😢
My husband went & bought an old Star Tac so he would have a phone. Driving 82 miles one way to get to work each day, he needed a phone.
I have read about the v710 not sure I would want all of its features. I am not really sure what Bluetooth is or does. Guess I am a dummy.
I know LG has just released the 6100 which has a camera & the features of the 5550 & it is a CDMA phone. Not sure if Alltel will get it though. I was shock Alltel even got the 5450 & 5550. At the rate Alltel is going I will be 90 before they have a phone with everything I want at an affordable price. 🤣
Again, thanks for you input I really appreciate it.
