You do realize that if VZW is the purchaser, that is a bad thing for Alltel customers. We will be paying more for less.

Isn't there nationwide coverage now? Besides unless you travel all the time who cares. As long as my phone works in the area I am usually in I am happy. Verizon sucks, crappy phone selection and way overpriced when compared to Alltel. I wish Alltel could buy Verizon.

Already have nationwide coverage. For customers it isn't a good thing if Alltel gets bought by VZW. Unless they keep the plans, etc. intact.

Alltel didn't keep the plans intact when they bought CellOne, so I wouldn't expect Verizon to keep the plans the same if they bought 'em out. It isn't a good thing for Alltel, but it would be wonderful for USCC.... Our plans our better than Verizon's anyday.

Last time I checked, Verizon wasn't showing many signs of taking Alltel up on their proposal. They didn't look to interested from my point of view, such as it is.

Either Comcast or Sprint.

Both would be mergers, not purchases.

Verizon would make more sense (for Verizon, that would push them ahead of Cingy for first place) but they don't seem to be much interested. I wouldn't think Sprint had recovered enough from the last merger to start another one. I don't know much about Comcast, but I agree, it would be more like a merger than a buyout.

Verizon's CEO already has said that they would have to buy Vodafone out of their company before they could even begin to consider anything else besides spectrum purchases.

The likelyhood of a merger with Sprint is actually rather good, which I'm not happy with personally. Word is that the Sprint name would remain, but the Alltel price structure would be incorporated, and the Alltel managment team would oversea operations. This would also make Alltel (together with Sprint) the national player that they've been acting like.

As for Comcast, this is the deal that most of us are looking at and hoping for. This allows Comcast to get into wireless without having to be an MVNO. Alltel would remain intact, and options for growth would be hu...

when did vzw ceo say that? i know they want vodafone out but that statment i don't think is true. plus alltell does have quite a bit of spectrum probably more than westvirgina wireless had, and it's towers are already CDMA vs WVW GSM. and alot of what alltell has verizon is using instead of building. so there shouldn't be much overlap, wouldn't like to start advertising #1 again??

It was in response to a question asked the day after the Alltel 4th quarter board meeting, so last week.

Verizon Wireless doesn't have the cash to purchase Alltel right now anyhow, so that is out of the question. Heck, Verizon Wireless doesn't even have the free money to puchase their own company back from Voda, otherwise they would.

Is it possible they are giving up on voda? Because if they buy Alltel then VZW will have to pay 15-20 million and voda the rest, otherwise voda will lose their power position anyway. Buying voda outright from the company would cost 50 million plus.....

voda is asking a lot because they really don't want out. so they want to make it worth their while. they can just stick around and continue to profit of VZW success which they helped build.

It would take a long time, longer than even the SBC/ATT/BellSouth thing took. Since the FCC allowed the ATT monster, they have been very slow to approve these monster mergers.
