GOIN DOWN

Big Daddy

Sep 9, 2004, 6:20 PM
I have never posted in this forum before but I just wanted to tell every employee and consumer of Nextel that once any of the 5 big boys.. Verizon, Cingular, Sprint, T-Mobile or ATT gets PTT you will go down in flames in a NY minute... have a nice day...

You are either arrogant, ill informed or both. Both Verizon and Sprint offer a PTT solution. Verizon failed miserably to win Nextel business due to the poor performance of their PTT. Sprint's is better but even the Sprint reps I know sell it as a extra feature - not one that will outperform Nextel's.

*sigh*....

Why don't you try researching a topic before spouting off? Due to the technology no other carrier will match the latency of Nextel's PTT. In terms of coverage, Verizon and Sprint's PTT only work on-network - not when roaming, not in analog, etc. Nextel already has more digital coverage than Sprint and even AT&T's or TMobile's GSM. No, their overall coverage is not as large as Verizon, for voice, but their data coverage is as large.

why dont you look at a map there fuddrucker...
Nextel has the worst coverage of any of the top 6 carriers, they are barelty better than metro pcs 🤣

I'm not going to argue with a half-wit call center rep who barely knows the industry. If you think Nextel has less coverage than Metro pcs you have serious training needs....

I am a call center rep therefore I know about this " INDUSTRY " more than you. I get calls from people like you all time

" I am not getting a dial tone "
" Where is the power button "
" Does my local plan cover europe "
" Do you find my voice attractive "

things like that...

You have been taught to follow a flow chart to trouble shoot customer issues. That does not make you an industry expert.

I have been in the wireless industry for 7 years. I've worked for paging companies, sold Iridium, and now cellualr. I write custom J2ME applications and build complete wireless integrated solutions for my customers.

As a dealer I call my Nextel rep, my Nextel data rep or dealer support when I have questions - not customer care.

Next time you want to argue with someone try researching your topic a little.

You turds are awesome 🤣

Nextel sucks - yeah whatever. 🙄

Every carrier has their strong points and their weak points.

Nextels strength is Direct Connect... there are no others...lol.

Even here in Boston, a major business hub, Nextel is weak.

And as for Direct Connect being untouchable... we'll see when Cingular rolls their PTT out... current testing indicates it will be stiff competition.

Don't worry your pretty little head about it; Nextel ain't goin nowhere.

I don't care how pimp Cingular's new PTT is -- err, I mean, will be -- since it is still VAPORWARE, Nextel will survive because they have OK coverage on their own and there are lots of corporate customers like GM and EDS that have installed Nextel repeaters in all of their plants and office buildings so even the tape changer dude down in the basement of the computer room still gets a signal on his Nextel while he has to wait till he gets out in the parking lot to get a GSM signal. And, of course, this iDen equipment is not compatible with anything else so the investment would be lost if they changed.

Baam! Betcha didn't think of all that 😲

Actually fc, its NOT vaporware. Its in final testing.

Nextel will have to begin to innovate in the face of other carriers who offer a comparable PTT solution AND great coverage. See, here's the thing... people buy cell phones to do a lot of things, but the primary one is to MAKE CALLS! Nextel's pitiful little coverage map will look a lot less attractive when their key selling feature, Direct Connect, has decent competition.

You said a lot in that last paragraph... they need a REPEATER to provide that coverage. iDEN's exclusivity will be its downfall.

Think about this: You're driving in rural VA. You're from NYC. You blow a tire. Grab your Nextel... no service. No other carrier to roam onto. What are your options? You have two: find...

The difference between Nextel and their competitors is the fact Nextel focuses on business solutions - not retail customers. No other carrier offers GPS tracking solutions, wide selection of J2ME enabled handsets and vast Blackberry industry solutions. Let Cingular launch PTT. It has not helped Verizon or Sprint gain any significant market share. Nextel's competitors can sell "voice" solutions all day long. Businesses are looking for complete communication and data solutions.

Like Cingular doesn't offer Blackberry and J2ME. Over 80% of the Fortune 1000 use our wireless email services! Our data offerings are very complete as well.

None of this, however, address what happens when you are not in a Nextel coverage area, and have NO roam ability whatsoever. Maybe Nextel should give away a good quality pair of walking shoes with each new activation!

Cingular's Interactive division was "purchased" from Bell South. Cingular inherited the Fortune 1000 customers you speak of due to that purchase. Last I read Cingular was selling the division to help finance the purchase of AT&T.

Cingular Interactive handled the RIM series... Cingular's B2B department handles the Blackberry, which is also available in our retail outlets. BellSouth is one of the parents of Cingular. Cingular Interactive has not supported any of our data or wireless devices that I am aware of since the RIM 950/957 series. Blackberry is a totally different animal, and it is THIS solution powering the Fortune 1000.

nextel has off network push to talk and international direct connect.

the other providers dont even have a good nationwide product and not even a international product.

500k+ subs for verizon, and sprint vs 14 million for nextel.. hmm i wonder which is better. and things could change with the FCC regarding the push to talk being tapped.

6:1 should help too and also building 2200 cell sites and probably 2200+ next year.

it depends if cingular rolls out with their push to talk becuase the FCC is trying to make it so that those push to talk services will be tapped. then 2 things could happen.

1. try to get the technology and implement it which would mean more expenses for those carriers
2. scrap the push to talk services all together becuase they dont want to pay the extra money for the technology.. if they cant get the technology then they have to get rid of it.

unfort verizon , sprint and alltel has push to talk now.. and they only have 500k total subs.. 500k vs 14 million.. hmm i wonder which is better..

plus the fcc is making those companies to tap their push to talk. if they cant do that then they would be forced to get rid of the services.

Sprint has PTT and it doesn't even touch Nextel's PTT... it takes sometimes more than 10 seconds to even alert the other user... and even charges the customer for those seconds wasted. Most of Nextel's plans have Unlimited D/C and then only $10 more for Unlimited Nationwide D/C... recently rolled out was International D/C and then Off Network D/C... what more can you ask for?

Sun Kissed I agree. Big Daddy, the guy who started this stupid thread is a tool and doesn't know what the hell he is talking about. Anybody that would even legitimately try to use the Sprint PTT for communication purposes would be really disappointed. I tryed my friends it is horrible. Ten seconds to alert someone? Try sometimes never, it just flat out doesn't work.

but soon push to talk services besides for nextel's might go away if the other companies can not get their networks be able to be tapped, which i dont think can happen.

Yah, well that would be awesome if the PTT was dicontinued for all the companies except nextel.
Leave the PTT to the people who know what the hell their doing.
