I did a quick test a little while ago and here is what I found. From TOAST.NET I was reporting speeds from 1032KB to 3452KB on downloads. My EV DO card has Venturi Compression Client assisting so the speeds reported are higher than what I have heard EV DO is capable of. A call was placed to a family member at Verizon Wireless and I heard that with the Venturi Software thay have had reports as high as 8mbps. Now here is the other part, Verizon advised much lower speeds because the actual numbers are dependent on network conditions and how heavy the channel is being used. The 80.00 a month is well worht the mobility for me and my wife who also uses an EV DO card. Time is money in the Real Estate and Mortgage business so 80 clams is peanuts ver...

i was just asking a question you dont have to be an idiot over it....

thanks anyway.. but if you didnt get that software, which i bet most people cant get, do you think its worth the 80 bucks?

The legal system. I have actually seen 1X speeds over 300kbps on our laptops. Carriers likely keep it low so that they don't get sued if customers experience network issues or network overload. Look at the bogus Bluetooth lawsuits, Blind people suing because phones aren't easy to use etc.

thats true.

now, do you always sustain those data speeds on your do when you go on the limit of your coverage area or you dont travel that much?

This is hard to answer. Some of the fastest 1x speeds were attained in Craig Colorado while I was there Elk hunting in November of 2003. I would say for 1X that 120-140 is common around here and I haven't used EV DO anywhere else but Milwaukee and Madison Wisconsin. I am hoping that ALLTEL comes out with EV DO and 1X in areas that Verizon will allow us customers to use, I use their network a lot when hunting in the midwest. I will be in Norht Central Arkansas next weekend so I need to check if they have 1X there and if I can use it (ALLTEL)

usually if you have bad or not so great coverage area or things of that nature, your speeds will diminish becuase of capacity and overloading of towers..

when you were in those areas, were your ev-do speeds hurt?

today is the first time that I have tested EV DO speeds, the service wasn't yet in Colorado when I was there. When in WI and the Chicago area it has seemed faster than SBC DSL has at our home office. I think we need to cancel the SBC but then again the small proce for back up might be worht it IF Verizon ever goes down.

up since 4am? lol hahahahha. come on now, get some rest.

i dont really belive what those kind of web sites say. i belive it if you actually download and upload at those speeds, becuase sometimes those sites can lie, in my opinion...

You are most likely correct. It does rock though, stop by a Verizon store and ask for a demo.

becuase i read the article saying that flarion is a lot faster, but when you get to bad coverage areas and bad capacity areas speeds will go down a lot..

yea, maybe, but verizon isnt that great around here, and i am on the water.

i just dont think its worth the 80 bucks per month for those speeds especially when i pay a lot less for comcast at higher speeds. i know that comcast isnt mobile, but i dont need high speed data on the go yet..

but yea, i will check it out, but i want to see what sprint offers, becuase sprint is very good in this area...

This might have been a bad Vodka moment. Flarion is developing a service 4 times faster than EV DO A though.

so they say...... it said that if its indoors or lack of a great coverage area it will be near 600kb/s ... plus who cares what a start up company says.. i mean nextel and sprint said no to them, so i mean they must know something that we dont.....
