Nextel coverage changes?

ticked

Nov 28, 2004, 1:09 PM
I am trying out Nextel in the Vancouver WA/Portland OR area and my coverage is pretty good so far but I have some questions.

When is Nextel required to change their network, by what date? And is that change going to degrade the coverage I have now or improve the coverage?

I have been reading that Nextel is scrambling to build new towers to comply with FCC req. by a date this spring? Is this true?

I would appreciate anyone who can clarify this for me. I don't want to sign a contract and find my coverage disappears.

Thanks

I assume ur talking about fcc swap. Nextel is ever expanding coverage.

"When is Nextel required to change their network, by what date? And is that change going to degrade the coverage I have now or improve the coverage?"

You will have the same coverage or better. They are NOT changing there network Just adding to it. IT will still be 800mhz Just contigious spectrum. With and addition of 1900mhz data network due in 2006. ADD that together and u got a killer network.

Runagun has it correct, NEXTEL is going to relocate in the 800 Spectrum, add a temporary utilization of 900 MHz, and then begin to turn on a 1.9GHz system that will overlay the 800 MHz spectrum.

Typically the 800 spectrum will be utilized for Voice (Cellular and Direct-Connect) and the 1.9 GHz spectrum will be initially reserved for data, although there is some talk of PTT VoIP over the 1.9 spectrum, but this is way off the radar.

There is no requirement for NEXTEL to add towers but there is a requirement to complete the relocation of Public Safety 800 MHz users in a 2 year time frame. This will not affect the NEXTEL sub unless you using a really old handset. I manage an 800 MHz PS radio system and very aware of the dealings with re-...

they arent exactually changing their network.. if you mean by turning some 800mhz spectrum to the fcc, some of those spectrum is actually designated for the public safety; thus we shouldnt be affected. they also have 900mhz spectrum available that nextel has in their holdings, as well as their subsiduary that has a lot of 900mhz spectrum that they can bring together. they are required to relinquish their 800mhz (that they are giving up) i belive in 1-2 years from when nextel oks the order (which they havent yet).

with the change in coverage i belive that it will help coverage becuase it...
