I have an i95 because of one of my part-time jobs, and my other part-time job is with Sprint. No doubt that right now Nextel is much better in the area of walkie-talkie. There is a delay with my 5500, but unless you are in the same room, you really can't tell because once the initial contact is made (about 3 seconds), the delay is only around a 1 to 2 seconds. Sprint's is supposed to be quicker as the technology gets going, only time will tell.

I'm very pleased with my 5500. It's a great phone, video mail, picture mail, internet connectivity, and PTT. Everything in a neat package. Also, with Free and Clear America, coverage just about everywhere. As pointed out, the initial delay is not noticeable unless you are in the same room. After the connection is made, you can't beat it.

Any PTT on the market right now is garbage compared to nextel, waste of money and time,, besides no one has the sprint or verizon PTT yet so who you talking to on it? yourself,, tip for you,, toss it out the window,,

Who am I talking to on it? One person that I speak to on a regular basis is a long time Nextel dealer, who now prefers Sprint. It is working great. I use the video mail frequently, I use my phone for connectivity with my laptop, I have coverage in many many areas that Nextel can only dream of, and I pay considerable less than the plans that Nextel offers. Yes if I were uninformed, closed minded, and a fool, I would indeed accept your tip, and toss my phone out the window. Instead, I'll continue to use the most advanced, most complete phone on the market in the U.S. today.

i dont know where you live, but i had sprint in MASS (boston area) and RI (providence area). Let me explain something that you might not understand since you must be a sprint dealer or something. i was always roaming both in boston and providence area,, i prefer not to pay sprints high priced roaming fees when i can have a nextel phone which has awesome service in both areas and doesnt roam. why do you care so much about sprint having coverage in areas that nextel doesnt, who cares!!! those are probably places people never go,, what cell phones users are concerned about is when they travel to major business districts and have good coverage,, nextel has that and are expanding all the time, i think your a confused person who enjoys paying roam...

Let ME explain something to you that you might not understand.........

Sprint is the ONLY carrier that has coverage in the top 100 largest markets in the US. Sprint and TMobile are the ONLY companies that own spectrum to even have Coverage in the top 100 largest markets. As far as roaming... you are obviously less than informed. It costs me a huge fee of $5.00/month to roam off network with Sprint, (up to 50% of my minutes). It's likely from your writing style and apparent intellect that, that $5.00 may be a large chunk of your weekly wage. I use my phone to stay online remotely.... and trade stocks using real time quotes ... on a regular basis..something that we professionals appreciate...I use the most advanced, most complete phone...

You are forgetting one thing - Sprint deals with Ubiquitel to build out smaller markets. They don't know the system. Southern UT and all of Idaho is not sprint - even though they show it on their map.
Nextel own s spectrum in many markets where they do not provide service - yet. They are smart and build out as demand requires. Check their Web site. Here in Utah they launched 43 new sites in 2003, providing service in places none of the other national carriers have service.

I guess I never gave a lot of thought to coverage in Utah. The next time I travel to Utah will be the first time, and I suspect that's the case for 95% of the members of this forum. Your point is well taken, if you live in Utah, apparently Nextel is the way to go.

lets make this simple boys and girls, sprint sucks, its obvious nextel provides better service,

sprint is more for teenagers without credit or people who have bad credit, sprint practically gives there phones away to anyone cause they are so desperate for service,

nextel is a more professional company, more for business and professional users who need reliable service,

its true nextel doesnt come out with as many phones as sprint does, but when nextel does come out with a phone its quality, not a piece of plastic junk that sprint puts out,

i went through 4 flip phones in a year when i had sprint cause they were garbage,

i had the nextel i1000 for over 2 years and it didnt have a scratch, now i upgraded to the i730 which is als...

Consumers make up a very little portion of Nextel's customer base. It may be a favorite where you are at - especially if Boost Mobile is in your market - but the majority of Nextel's business is business and government subscribers.

It's clear by your response that you are indeed the "typical" Nextel user.... You're very clearly a "business professional"... Your "mature" reply certainly set me straight. Maybe someday I can grow up to be as wise, professional and well-spoken as you.

So can you tell me what kind of person I am since I use both an i95 and and Sanyo 8100?

You want an honest comparison, we heres the scoop.

Sprint does make alot of cheap phones, no arguement here. But what the hell do you expect from a free phone? And I don't think Sprint is the only company that does free phones? Sanyo is the only phone to get when purchasing Sprint, LG, Kyocera and Samsung are inteed plastic pieces of junk. You get what you pay for.

Coverage area: In Tampa and other major cities in Florida, the coverage is pretty comparible, but there are more occasions when my Nextel gets service and my Sprint doesn't. When I travel out of the state or out of major cities, my Nextel is HORRIBLE. Good luck getting service o...

Nextel does offer wireless connections for laptops, the phones can be connected to pdas and used as modems. I admit the data service still needs improvement, but they are getting there. As far as I am concerned, if you really wanted a phone to work when your nextel didn't, you would go with Verizon. Nextel will get there though, and when they do, look out world.

Sorry but I have Nextel and our Direct Connect is instant when you connect to the other person, Verizon and Sprint and anywhere 6 10 second delay. Don't know where you got the info. But Verizon does have better coverage so far than Nextel but they are working on it. Also Nextel has Nationwide Direct Connect and it works awesome. I have family in Florida and talk to them on the Dirrect Connect all the time instantly and have no problem. 🤣

I use both Nextel and Sprint and I would definetly agree that Nextel's walkie-talkie is much quicker. To defend Sprint though, the Ready Link gets faster after the initial connection is mad, bringing down the lag to about 2 seconds. But still not as quick as Nextel. But both carriers have nationwide walkie-talkie

There is a setting on Sprint's phones that do not allow you to roam. When you are on automatic mode, it will pick up the strongest signal, even if its not Sprint. So you can be in a Sprint area and pick up somebodys elses towers. When your phone is set on Sprint PCS only, YOU CANNOT ROAM. You are right about one thing, Sprint has sold some pretty cheap phones, but any of the Sanyo phones are awesome.

I definitely think that Sprint is the way to go. Nextel's coverage is so much smaller than Sprint's. Also every time you call someone with a Nextel phone you always have to wait through,"please hold while the nextel subscriber is found." Geez give me a break! Plus Sprint has all the latest technology and features on their ready link phones (video cameras, etc). Why would you choose anyone else? 🤣

The only time that message is given is when the subscriber is already on a PTT call and the other caller is directed to VM. It's no big deal.

Sprint has larger coverage? Maybe with their roaming and analog roaming - which the PTT will not work when you are off of Sprint actual network. Here in Utah Nextel has ~50% more coverage than Sprint. Other than camera phones Nextel's are far superior - all of them support messaging, use as wireless modems, speaker phones; the new models support 600 entry phone books, 3 MB memory, and calls are much clearer.
