Nokia 6200 (from Cingular) has some settings blocked out
anyway the cingular version does not have it, and I just spoke to NOKIA and was told that CINGULAR BLOCKED OUT THOSE SETTINGS
so does anybody know of a way to change that, and to be able to pick other carriers,
so far where I am, even in the OFFICIAL dead spots (cingular acknowledged it themselves) since its in and around a city, where cingular does have coverage, I am picking up 0-1 bar of service, and still does not search for another carrier (AT&T GSM has full service there)
from the way NOKIA put it, ("CINGULAR BLOCKED OUT THOSE SETTINGS OF SYSTEM SELECTION...") sounds like, this plan of free roaming ...

so what does it mean FREE ROAMING?!?!?!?!?
(which sounds like any tower, exept the phone is blocked out from using most towers)
Free roaming means you don'tpay roaming charges.
The feature you want is "unlimited roaming", which we do not offer. (Nor does anyone else, as far as I know.)
Roaming, or using a non-Cingular tower for your calls, costs us money. Sometimes a little money, sometimes a ot, depending on who owns the tower and what deals we have in place.
Restricting a phone's system selection and carefully the phone's roaming database are two ways to prevent us losing money on your account. Usually, roaming agreements cover places where we do not have towers at all, rather th...

I have no input into the tower siting rules.
Go to your nearest dealer, ask to talk with Retail Support. Tell them you are getting a lot of dropped calls (I assume you are) in your area, and would like a credit. Specify the area.
While you are there, ask the dealer if he has the latest quarterly network newsletter. Ask him if there are towers scheduled for your area, and what roaming agreements are in place. (There may not ...

but mentioned me an intresting thing.. that since I got my phone in NYC (market #42), so it might help get relocated to NJ (market #39)
does that make any sense, would I get more roaming in my home area??
is there any special department that I could call?? there has to be some kind of customer feedback place, to know what is a priorty with adding towers, or making agreements..
I take courses on a large campus (1/2 mile from my house) where there is almost no service at all, and most people dont have cingular for that reason (the person I spoke to today said, that my closest tower is 1...

Any adjustments to your IRDB (that roaming database) have to take place in your home area. That's one thing.
There might well be different arrangements for people living in NJ, as opposed to people just passing through. You will certainly get more appropriate service if you are using the phone where you said you were using it.
It is certainly worth checking out a relocation. CS can transfer you to the Relocation department.

What market are you in? Just wondering, one kiosk-dweller to another. I haunt the Boston market myself... I'm a dual-dweller... kiosk in a Wal-Mart... 😁
Boston market as well -- Framingham Wal-Mart, in the corner near the cigarettes and the abandoned shopping carts. 😢
Soon, though, I get to leave this store in the hands of well-trained Wal-Mart employees and their nifty Communication Center (and Photo shop, apparently) while I resume my nomadic existence as a Northborough/Hudson floater.
